I am a
female and am 18 years old!
My Testimony:
I became a Christian on 6th December 2005, after a long struggle to find the Lord.
Being the daughter of a Minister, the sister-in-law of a Pastor, the sister of a Youth Pastor and a "pretty good teen" by most standards, I guess, to some extent, I greatly assumed my salvation. I always went to church as a child, and I knew God existed, but I thought that to be a Christian meant going to church on a sunday and saying grace at mealtimes!
Throughout my school life, I battled with various issues, which I kept very much to myself.
During High School, my life turned to turmoil in more ways than one. My eldest brother, who had never really been a good influence was involved with gun crime, resulting in him going to prison. This was a major setback for my family, and being much younger than the rest of them, I found it difficult to cope, but being the stubborn person I am, I felt that I could tackle things on my own. Throughout High School I was bullied because of my brother, because of the colour of my skin, because of my religious beliefs, and because of my intellect. Not only did this shatter my confidence, it left me feeling very depressed at times.
I found that in order to cope with the increased pressures of a teenage life, I had to find something to focus my attention on. Being very interested in music, I decided that I would take my flute playing very seriously, devoting a lot of time and effort. I spent a lot of time admiring a friend of my mothers, a fantastic musician, who I am afraid to say I idolised because I thought that he was exactly what I wanted to be. I soon realised that this wasn't the case when I discovered that this man was having an affair with my mother.
When I discovered this, I remember falling to my knees and crying out to God, feeling completely lost. I somehow found the courage to share this discovery with my other brother and together, somehow, we managed to comfort each other. One of the hardest times of my lif was having to continually look at my mum, and for this man to also be in our house every week. It hurt me...and I didn't like the fact that it would hurt my dad, who I was very protective over. Mum and I used to argue when she found out that I knew her secret. Not only did we argue, we fought, to the point of her threatening to kill me if I told my dad about her affair.
I didn't even consider God at this time! When my parents finally split (5th Nov 2005) I began to go to church, and feeling the great love that the people seemed to have their...I realised that perhaps a relationship with God was what I needed...to be continued
