Just a blog about our favourite word

I just thought I would just write a bit about an Evangelical habit. Just a while ago it was pointed out to me that Evangelicals just have this habit of overusing one word above all others. It just surprised me when I considered it carefully that it just really was true. I used the word when I prayed just wanting to pray a good prayer having just listened to those more experienced in praying just using this word in an imploring way. It just seemed right at the time until I thought, just a minute, I just don’t need to keep on saying this word in my prayers. It was just a revolution to be freed from the habit so I thought you just might like to think about it too. Just in case you are not sure of what the word is I’ll just say that it is just 4 letters long

if you are referring to the word "amen"- the many definitiions of this word in Strongs' include truly, verily, so be it and I am in agreement. this word is not to implore but to agree, but, if you don't know that... you will use it as a question.

When we pray, we are presenting petitions or asking questions or seeking.. agreement with Father God with our declarations (as some prayers are declarations) and we need to demonstrate our agreement with the words we spoke when we're through praying... we NEED to agree with God and Declare our intentions in prayer and this is just as important as being sure we make our petitions to the Father, IN Jesus' Name, in accordance to what is written in the Word...

AMEN.

Thanks Blackrose but actually it wasn't AMEN I was referring to (I hadn't thought about that word as it is 4 letters long too). It's the word I overused in the blog - but perhaps its overuse is a UK phenomenon! I generally hear AMEN only once in a prayer (unless it is a Pentecostal church like the one I attend where the listeners tend to use it much more than the pray-er)!

Is it "Pray?" Because I'm Pentecostal too, but I tend to over-use AMEN, rather than pray. :D I do also tend to overuse Hallelujah (which is more than 4 letters), or PRAISE GOD (which comprises two words). :D

God Bless,
