ChristianBlog - A Christian Myspace
Myspace is obviously one of the places to be on the internet, if you ask most people. It seems like overnight it came out of nowhere and became the defacto website that every human being is supposed to visit as soon as they log onto the internet. Of course, a lot of people simply cannot stand the website, while another large amount of people feel it is a website they will never visit.
One of the most popular questions we get from people visiting the website is, "Is ChristianBlog(.)Com a 'Christian alternative' to myspace"?
Originally our answer to this question was "No, we are a blogging website" -- which was very true for the first 4 or 5 months the website was online -- recently however, ChristianBlog.Com is turning more and more into a very viable alternative of myspace for those of the Christian faith!
In our features request and my mid-May update pages I have extensively detailed the many features we are planning on developing (and most of them have been at the time of this writing) and where we are headed with the website.
Recently we even updated our home page to include a new message to try to emphasis that we are more than just a blog website!
Why Use ChristianBlog.Com Rather Than myspace?
This now being the middle of June I felt it was time to bring to focus some major reasons you should be using ChristianBlog.Com, your friends should be using ChristianBlog.Com and your entire family should be using ChristianBlog.Com!
ChristianBlog.Com is getting major attention!
As both our staff and some members of ChristianBlog.Com have blogged about, ChristianBlog.Com is getting massive attention from the Search Engine communities! Every day we are moving up the ranks in search engines for new blog entries that people post about! A large number of our members are amazed to do a search on their name and discover that their account at ChristianBlog.Com is listed in the Top 10 (first page) of most search engines!
ChristianBlog.Com has nearly every feature of myspace and other social websites!
Though we are still in a "beta development" status of our website at the time of this writing, there is no doubt that ChristianBlog is quickly pushing forward with their features and to-do-list! Since the website started allowing public members we have averaged 1.6 new features for every week we've been online! Compare that to myspace which has not really added any new features in months!
ChristianBlog.Com isn't littered with advertisement!
These days it is nearly impossible to find a social based website without a plethora of advertisements splattered throughout their website!
ChristianBlog.Com has (in the 7 months we've been public) never had more than two advertisements on any page of the website! And those two advertisements are placed in such as way as to not make them the focal point of the website page.
Again, compare that to myspace which often has six or more advertisements on their website!
ChristianBlog.Com Protects Our Members From Random Contact!
Unlike many social based websites (such as myspace), we protect our members from being contacted by every other member of our website, until such time as they are granted permission to contact you!
Do you really want somebody who you have never heard of sending you messages? Of course not, none of us do! That is why ChristianBlog.Com has gone further than nearly every other social based website in protecting our members from receiving private messages from people they do not know!
ChristianBlog.Com Protect Our Members From Inappropriate Material!
Have you ever visited any of the other social websites (such as myspace) and had music start playing that talked about every human biological organ there is? Did it cause you to want to never return to that website? We sure hope so!
Have you ever visited any of the other social websites (such as myspace) and come across text that simply does not glorify God? Most of us have!
At ChristianBlog.Com you are hopefully never going to encounter that! We review each and every new blog entry posted. We review each and every blog comment posted.
And even during those hours that our staff is sleeping (we aren't robots) our software automatically censors out thousands of badwords should someone post them!
But we don't stop there! We have our software designed to automatically remove blog entries when they get reported by our members for containing inappropriate content!
When was the last time you were at a social website that had that feature! ChristianBlog.Com is one of the few that provides both of these features!
We are working on those features most people want!
A lot of people like myspace because it allows them to customize their individual webpage's to look as nice, or dorky, as they want it to look! Though ChristianBlog does not presently do this, we have been working on new features that will allow us to do so in the future!
A lot of people like the "groups" feature of myspace. Again, ChristianBlog.Com does not do that... but again, it is a feature we are working on at this very moment! We are working with youth pastors, missionaries, members of youth groups, and parents, to develop those features that make the "groups" feature so nice!
ChristianBlog is not corporatized and online simply to make money!
In fact, so far the development of ChristianBlog.Com has cost nearly $50,000 and I've never charged one penny for membership, received one penny from an advertiser, and as of yet, nobody has donated any money to help me keep it online either.
ChristianBlog is being 100% funded by myself. I am the owner and primary developer of the website. I am not doing it to sell the website for millions. I am not doing it to make millions from advertisers splattering their banner ads all over the website. I am doing it because God said it was time to do it!
ChristianBlog.Com started with no capital investment, nor is it owned by a multi-billion dollar company (like myspace is).
The facts of finances are clear: This is about God, not money! Can myspace say the same??
"But all my friends are using myspace!"
That is one I just love...
How many times do we as Christians do something that is worldly because our friends are doing it? How often do we know it's wrong yet still do it?
Are we saying Christians should not use myspace? Yes and no. While there are those Christians who use myspace as a tool of evangelism, the large majority of Christians who use myspace are using it to simply connect with friends, yet doing so within an environment that is far from the standards that Christians should be surrounding themselves with.
Simply look at the trash talk taking place there.
Simply look at some of the advertisement place there.
Simply look at the motives of the stock holders of the company who owns it.
Simply look at the massive amount of recent news media cautioning (and many even condemning) the use of myspace. -- and lets face it folks, when the liberal anti-god media of today starts cautioning and condemning something... that should be a red flag for just about everybody!
In Closing:
Ok, let me try to wrap things up here folks.
I am not here to condemn many of the online social websites. However, I am here saying those of you who are Christians should seriously remember that surrounding yourself with like-minded people, that hanging out with individuals who are on the same path as you, offers you a greater chance of straying from the Lord, and a greater chance you will be built up in the faith and grace.
I hope folks do not see this blog entry has a time of ragging or raging -- for it is not intended as either.
But I do hope folks see this blog entry has a bit of frustration release on my part for the unimaginable understanding of why people use myspace and other non-Christian social websites, why parents allow their parents to use them, and why the Christian youth of this world are not standing up and saying "enough is enough... I want to use a Christian website and be surrounded with fellow Christians!". Just last week I was at a youth group meeting and had a laptop and got connected to a wireless network the church setup. (actually, I set it up for them hehe) and after I'd checked the network security and made sure everything around the church campus was working correctly one of the youth music leaders asked if he could check his email. He seemed a mature young man that I could trust with my laptop so I let him. I walked out and a few minutes later I walked back into the room and noticed nearly the entire youth group surrounding my laptop. Needless to say my heart started beating a bit faster than it should normally! I walked up behind them all and noticed they were not using my laptop to look at  (thank goodness!) but rather they were surfing myspace. As I stood there and watched them I just had to shake my head... there in the midst of probably two dozen pages they viewed where an uncountable amount of non-Christian content that did not even make one of them walk away ... when it should have made each and every person in that room pray that website offline!
Perhaps someday that will happen... in the meantime I will continue to offer ChristianBlog.Com as an online alternative for those looking for a Christian myspace or similar social website! -- For God's Glory!
