Disable Downloading of Files in Internet Explorer
For security reasons one might want to disable or block downloading through Internet Explorer.
There could be several other reasons for this including building a secure Internet environment, protecting your PC from malicious files, making it so your children cannot download stuff, or just to protect yourself if you are one of those overtly paranoid type of people.
I have tested this on IE 6 and IE 7, under both Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Copy and paste the following into notepad and save it as disable_ie_downloading.reg:
Then run the disable_ie_downloading.reg file.
You should see a screen such as:

Click, "Yes".
Then you should see a screen such as this:

Then you will need to restart your computer.
After applying this setting trying to download anything will present you with this message:

If you wish to change the setting back repeat the process above with this value:
Here are the specific settings for this registry change:
0 = downloads not allowed
3 = downloads are allowed
