Internet News Related To Internet Social Community Websites

The following are news articles found on the internet related to Social Community Website Security.

Most of these will be links I come across that I feel are of significant importances in some way.

Some might deal directly with end-user security, some might deal with software security, some might deal with company and business security, and some might just be totally general in nature.

I post them here for all to read, as chances are they will broadly apply to some of our members here at ChristianBlog.Com

Malaysian paper files 1st-ever defamation suit against bloggers

Source

A major newspaper company has sued two Malaysian bloggers for defamation, an unprecedented move that the opposition warned Thursday is aimed at stifling dissent.

...

The suit comes on the heels of recent warnings from the government that it would take action to control bloggers who spread "disharmony, chaos, seditious material and lies" as one deputy minister termed it.

This should be an issue we all keep an eye on. We have already had a hand-full of people sued by other people here in the USA about their blogging habits. It would be all to easy for the ACLU or some other group to start throwing at the Goverment all kinds of lawsuites to try to squalsh the rights of bloggers, in an attempt to limit of freedom of speech.

Connecticut lawmakers unveiled legislation that would require social-networking sites to verify users' ages and obtain parental consent before minors can post profiles.

Source

Connecticut lawmakers unveiled legislation Wednesday that would require MySpace.com and other social-networking sites to verify users' ages and obtain parental consent before minors can post profiles.

Under the proposal, any networking site that fails to verify ages and obtain parental permission of users under 18 would face civil fines up to $5,000 per violation. Sites would have to check information about parents to make sure it is legitimate. Parents would be contacted directly when necessary.

The bill, which is scheduled for a public hearing on Thursday, would apply to any organized online networking organization, including chat rooms.

If ever a law was passed that could shut-down 99% of the social community websites presently online... this is it! This is bad, bad, bad, bad, bad!!

This very easily could be the beginning to a COPPA #2 -- a truly dreadful thing!
