What Makes Abert Great? Lessons in Faith from "El Hombre"

What Makes Albert Great? Lessons in Faith from "El Hombre":

I have little reason to respect most professional athletes and there are very few that I admire. The clear exception is Albert Pujols. I have the great pleasure of being able to interact with "El Hombre" on occasion and to observe his, not only as an athlete, but as a husband, parent and an outstanding member of the community.
"El Hombre", Albert Pujols
Pujols is generally recognized as the best player in professional baseball today. He is blessed with talent. But talent alone is not what makes Albert great. He is focused and dedicated. Albert trains year round. He not only keeps himself in shape, he keeps himself prepared to do his job.

He also keeps things in perspective. Seeing Albert interact with his children or his wife is inspirational. He is also intensely involved in his community.

Pujols is also a man of tremendous faith, and he lives that faith. We can learn some lesson from his work ethic and his faith.

Preparing for the End Times

Matthew 24:36-39:
However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah's day. In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. People didn't realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.

Jesus states clearly that no one but the Father knows when the end times will come. Despite this, in any bookstore (including Christian bookstores), you can find many volumes predicting when the End Times will occur. The current craze deals with the End of the 4th Age of man predicted by the Mayan Calendar.

As Christians, we need to be prepared for the End Times. We don't kow the hour or the day. It could happen today or a thousand years from now.

There is two huge differences between Pujol's preparation for a baseball season and our preparation for the End Times.

First, the baseball season has a known schedule. Albert knows how to pace himself to be in top condition, physically and mentally, bor a set schedule. As Christians, we need to be on our "A" game always.

Second, Albert's success on the field depends on his dees or works. Our salvation is by faith and grace, not works or deeds. Our salvation is not because we are good Christians, but because Jesus is a great Savior!

Our deeds do not lead to our faith. It is our faith that leads to our deeds. "In Christ Jesus you are a new creation."

So, we don't know when the End Times will come. But we need to be prepared. It could be today!

Shalom,
