A Blessed Fourth
Well, I often get a bit discouraged on Independance Day. I look at the state of our country and see so many of the freedoms we fought so hard for, being stripped away. We are under greater oppression now then we were under Englands control. I love my country, don't get me wrong, but I am saddened by so much that is going on in the world, but that's for another blog, another day. Yesterday, we had a vague plan in mind and really just had a day filled with the Spirit of God. A few weeks ago, God spoke clearly to me that I was to go to the carnival that comes to town and hand out tracts. This is WAY out of my comfort zone, but I shared it with hubby and my cell group. I was really hoping we could do it as a group and kind of stretch all of us, but the leaders just weren't keen on the idea. In so much they even said they'd watch the children for us so we could do it. Well, hubby and I decided we would go as a family and we chose July 4th, what a better day to go out and proclaim our religious freedom. We spent the day relaxing, didn't have the traditional hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. but spaghetti of all things! We loaded up the family and 50 tracts and headed to the carnival. We found who has the gift of evengelism, my dear hubby! He was wonderful! He had boldness and confidence as he handed them out. Three of my oldest children banded together and roamed the crowd dispensing tracts, while hubby and I stayed together with the two youner ones. God blessed our obedience by having a man give us some ride tickets, we had a few tickets but not enough to do too much. So the children enjoyed some rides, hubby gave the ride attendants tracts and we generally tried to bless all we came in contact with, I even got to ride a ride with Golden, woo hoo! I felt so blessed to feel the wind in my hair and feel like a kid again. The Lord's joy just filled my heart. We were getting ready to leave, the kids had really wanted to go on the Ferris Wheel, but we were out of tickets and it was time to go watch the fireworks. At that moment, a woman came up and offered her tickets, I graciously accepted and in turn handed her a tract. I believe she was the reason God sent us there. The kids rode the Ferris Wheel, we went and watched fireworks, away from the crowds, with a beautiful view and got to see some of God's beautiful fireworks as well, and as we drove away it poured down rain, had we been with the mob we'd have been drenched so we were blessed. And we needed the rain. God is so good! I am so glad I was obedient to the nudge of God to go do something I was not comfortable with, and watch it draw my family close and we all agreed it was the best Independance Day we ever had. Happy 4th of July, may we return to the country we once were; free, God fearing, united, strong and true. Be blessed this day! Andrea
