Acts 20: 27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

The Word of God, the Holy Scriptures, the Bible is God's revelation to man of Himself and, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." (2 Timothy 3: 16) Paul wrote this to Timothy before the New Testament had been written. Now we have both the New and the Old Testaments. There are dozens of good translations in English and most languages of the world. There are commentaries by Godly men who exogete the scripture and relate to us the clear meaning of each verse without regard to presuppositions. We can avail ourselves of the work of scholars who have studied the original Greek and Hebrew text for years. Men of faith who regard the text as true, inerrant and without error in the original writings. Those who are saved and born-again also have the Holy Spirit which was promised to us and will lead us into all truth. The large majority of the verses in the bible are not difficult to understand, a few may seem pardoxical but that's why we have teachers and pastors. There is vast evidence that supports the bible as written to being true and historically accurate and more is being discovered every year. With all of that why do so many who claim the name of Christian willfully disobey the clear teaching of the word, disparage its authors, ignore its precepts and principles and teach others to do the same.

For the most part it is prideful, willfull refusal to submit to the God that created them because they believe they know better than God. They distort, twist and force meaning on the word that is not there and then respond with personal insults and slander if their error is pointed out. They want what they want and anyone that, however gently, tries to dissuade them is treated worse than an infidel. Pull up the days headlines and read the number of "Christian" groups that are caving in to gay marriage, ordination of women, ordination of practicing homosexuals or lesbians, universalism, all religions lead to the same place and more and more compromise with the world and its "new" morality. The church is under assault from within and without and the most effective weapon is corruption of the Word of God and bringing the world into the church to attract the worldly and not teach, edify and build up the believer.

God uses the gospel to confound the wisdom of this world, the church must, must teach and preach the gospel for the lost and for the encouragement of the saints. When we the church cease doing that we might as well not exist. The preaching and teaching of the gospel to the world is the reason for our existence. In these times if we don't do that we will be engulfed and destroyed.
