The title is something I once said about management. I have since applied it to any number of things. Ironically, not only can I outsmart myself but I can outstupid myself as well. The phrase is not as clear and pungent as, "God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise."
The opinion makers of the world we live in would certainly agree with part of what Paul wrote in First Corinthians 1:26. They certainly consider Christians fools and themselves wise. If they only considered us fools we might be fairly safe but their opinion has moved beyond simply foolish to dangerous, pernicious and destructive. They despise, what they consider our hypocritical morality, and the effort of the Christian Right to promote these values in competition with their own is infuriating to them. How dare a bunch of "flat- earthers" believe that their views have any relevance at all. This haughty arrogance is equally offended by even the appearance of faith in schools, city council meetings, public display of religious symbols even on someones front lawn and worst of all promoting patriotism and Christian values together as though the United States were a Christian nation. It was declared to be so by the Supreme Court in years past.
Since the prolife movement is largely Christian. Feminist try to purport how shabbily women are treated in conservative Christianity but never seem to notice the treatment of women in Muslim countries. I read in the news today of a pregnant muslim woman beaten to death by her husband because she did not vote for the Moslem Brotherhood's candidate in Egypts election. The man would not be charged because that was his right under sharia law.
Its axiomatic that "free speech" trumps any restriction on pornography and the demeaning and degrading lyrics in much of popular music concerning women. It would seem logical if they truly wanted to protect the image and rights of women that they would be leading the charge against pornography which treats women in the most debased, perverted, demeaning and degrading ways, possible to imagine, but there is virtual silence from these staunch defenders of women. What is most astonishing to me is to hear "Christian" women refer to themselves as feminist. That has to be complete nonsense but they don't seem able to see past their own self- interest.
In the past conservative Christians have supported the Republican Party as a party friendly to their interest and supportive of many of their values. This is becoming less true at every turn. The supposed neccessity for compromise has pulled the GOP further into the secular orbit and support of any political organization over time is a loser for Christians anyway. Our "Kingdom is not of this world." and it should be more and more apparent that the end of this age is drawing to a close. This world will not be set right by any political system or ideology but only by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords when He returns to reclaim this world for Himself. I don't long for the horror that will be unleashed just prior to His coming but I must pray, come Lord Jesus come.
