stop the world -- i want to get off

When you were 11 you just wanted to be 13.

Then it was on to 16, ahhh , sweet sixteen!

At 17 you were sure that to be 21 would be the top of the world.
Then it seems you just turned around and . . . I am how old? Slow it down!

In case you haven't noticed, time is going faster. When we were just squirts, most of us remember long summer days, some even plagued by boredom. You just knew you had all the time in the world. What were we thinking?

Perhaps we felt that way because we were yet to have the world fully engulf us.

There are three definitions of the world:
  1. The material earth or universe
  2. The people on the earth
  3. The things of the earth

Behind all these is an orderly arrangement or organization. It is intangible, a planned system. In the system there is a harmonious functioning, a perfect order. Since Adam opened the door to evil, the world order has shown itself to be hostile to God.

Friendship with the world is enmity with God.i

Jesus said - My kingdom is not of this world.ii He has overcome the world and through faith we too overcome.iii

When we touch the things of the world, the question we must ask ourselves is How is this thing affecting my relationship with the Father? Is this God or Satan?

Christians overcome the world by being otherworldly.

We do not remove worldly things, but have our heart delivered from the grip of worldly things.

The fact is that time is going faster. We are indeed like the flower in the grass, here today and gone tomorrow.iv

It is a good thing to say stop the world I want to get off.

What you are really saying is YES to the kingdom of God!

Yeah huh, huh, yeah huh yeah huh yeah huh! That was a cheer, by the way. So concise and pertinent! I had never 'felt' that rhythm in 'stop the world I want to get off'! Just what I needed this morning!

Thank you Silverpen for the comment and the recommendation.

The faster time goes here and the shorter it becomes, unlimited eternity with God is a joyous thought indeed!

Blessings in return,
Barb

Good blog. You are right, we need to remove ourselves from some of the things of this world. To that 5 year old squirt, that 3 month summer represents 1/20 of his life - a very long time. To me, it is only 1/250 of my life - a very small amount of time. - bibleguy64

Thank you bibleguy64 ... I had to think about that a bit ... called my math friend for an interpretation

The older I get the easier it is to see life is indeed like the the flower of the field (Psalm 103).

We can sigh and wish for more or get expectant of greater things to come in eternity. I for one, have no desire to turn back the clock and repeat. I just want to complete all I am here to accomplish having fought a good fight, finishing the race having kept the faith.
(2 Tim 4:7)

May we all reach that goal.

Blessings,
Barb

Wonderful blog Barb. What truth. As we run our race we cannot help but run into the world - however we can run through it as we continue our race. I'm not sure I got the 1/250 bibleguy64 mentions? -- math was never my strong point. I really like the point about asking about everything fo this world "How is this thing affecting my relationship with the Father? Is this God or Satan? " We can also ask ourselves about everything we spend time doing -- How is this think I am doing affecting the Father's kingdom?"

Thanks for sharing.

What I meant was this: (and obviously I didn't make it too clear). A 3 month summer vacation (or any other period of time) seems like a long time to a 5 year old, because it actually is very long, compared to how old he is. He's only been alive 60 months, so comparitively speaking, 3 months is a long time, and therefore it seems to pass slowly. For me, 3 months is nothing, a mere bag of shells (as Ralph Kramdem used to say). For me then, summer whizzes by. That is why when you discipline a little child with a time out, you give him, say, 10 minutes. To him, that seems like a long time. Give a 10 minute time out to a 12 year old, and it will seem like nothing. There, I'm done. (Wow, that seemed like it took a long time.) - bibleguy64

Thank you spiritlaughinliz for your comment. The idea of running through the world is a good one... less opportunity to stop, shop, and get caught

Blessings,
Barb
