The new contender

Jesus chose to come to earth at a time when there were no major communication networks in place. . .

What was He thinking?

The world has dramatically changed with the development of the World Wide Web. There are blogs, podcasts, video galleries, photo streams, twitter accounts, and many other social sites. Individuals and businesses can share a message with millions of people and never leave their living room.

Facebook Stats and Facts for 2011-2012 With over 800 million users, Facebook is now used by 1 in every 13 people on earth, with over 250 million of them (over 50%) who log in every day.

The average user spends over 700 billion minutes a month on Facebook, 20 million applications are installed per day and over 250 million people interact with Facebook from outside the official website on a monthly basis, across 2 million websites . Over 200 million people access Facebook via their mobile phone. And this is just one form of media interaction via the Web.

Traditional media is being relegated to a back seat when looking for information. Social media is changing nearly everything about the way we live and communicate.

NOW CONSIDER THIS . . .

Jesus chose to come at a time when there were no major communication networks in place. Transportation was limited to foot, horse and donkey. No modern means of publicity and why? Think about that!

Just perhaps it was to make a very relevant point
His impact and primary work was in the spirit.

He entered a heavenly sanctuary with His own blood to make atonement for man.

As He walked on earth, He did not contend for political rule. He contended with spiritual forces operating in the unseen realm.

His primary message was about the Kingdom of God , a kingdom not of this world. Yes, He touched the people, but that was secondary. His assignment involved a work and a battle in the unseen realm.

Is social media the contender when it comes to your spiritual life? As much potential as media now has, let us not lose sight of the fact that our primary work is in the spirit.

Check your own statics:
How much time do you spend on media sites weekly?

How much time do you spend in prayer weekly?

We need to pray, exercise spiritual authority, and declare the rule of heaven in the same realm where Jesus even now continues in intercession for us. We must contend with spiritual forces, enforcing the victory of our glorious King.

This is not a war waged on websites, blogs, facebook, or any other earthly platform. It is a battle waged in the spirit by the spiritually mature.

PERHAPS WWJD MEANS MORE THAN YOU REALIZE . . .

THINK ABOUT THAT!

Excellent point well made. We do neglect prayer, and after all when we are on our knees we are at our strongest through Christ.

Good blog. You are right, nothing should make us neglect our prayer life. I see the computer like most other things. It can be a blessing or a curse. Time spent on this website is a blessing for me. - bibleguy64

Yes, too much time on the Net and too little with the Lord, that's the way the devil wants of us. May we spend quality time with the Lord for He is the One whom we will spend in eternity, not FB!

Thanks for sharing, Sister Barb

Blessings always

I view the advances in technology a blessing to the Church. Through this blessing we can now reach multitudes with the stroke of a few keys.

The new creation, the Church, is a spiritual creation. For anyone to hear the voice, the word, the truth of God, they must hear with spiritual ears.

However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural. In the unsaved world for the spiritual to be seen or heard it is needful for one to first receive a word of faith through their natural senses. This natural sense, most of the time, being either the sense of hearing or the sense of sight.

This age of technology has enabled a minister to be active in evangelizing the world while mingling among the locals preaching the gospel of grace, the gospel of God, and the gospel of Christ while demonstrating the love of God through his works and the fruit of his works, those who are being saved.

There is not much difference in the one who ministers via the web, as a missionary, on the local streets, or from the pulpit. The discerning spirit clearly sees and divides what is natural and what is spiritual regardless of the means of communication.

A failed message comes from one who is not abiding in the Word and in prayer. From him who is spiritual, spiritual words flow and the Spirit works in those who hear or read these words.

For the most part the reason for failed messages is the messenger believing it is his work and that it is he who must convince and convict.

We ought to Preach the Word, in season and out of season! Allow God to do His work through the words He has given to His obedient spiritual messenger.

This you do very well sister and I pray you continue flowing in His Spirit ministering to millions as they hear His Spirit speaking to them through the hearing or reading your obedient word.

Blessings,
Tch

Thank you tch for your comment, it is true, insightful, and well written!

Thank you as well for your encouragement. It is challenging to exhort and teach on the web, where there is very little feedback and no physical connection.

Your timing is great ... I am presently in the northwoods of Michigan's upper penninsula spending time in prayer and writing. I will go from the far north to the deep south in the next few weeks, praying over areas and meeting with people. One challenge after another.

Thanks again, and if I come to mind, please pray in agreement with us that the work of the Lord will advance.

Blessings,
Barb
