What is missing ...

New age seduction

Satan is more subtle and crafty than any living creature. Should we not expect the highest, purest, most correct sounding doctrine? If this is true, how can we detect his new age seduction? One sure test is to look for what is missing!

God created man for fellowship. However, God had to insert a parenthesis in the plan He had for man. In that parenthesis is the fall and thus the loss of fellowship with God. Also in that period of human history is the redemption of man by and through Jesus Christ.

God’s plan for fellowship with man started in eternity past and is going forward. God will have His end.
Behold the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them ...and be their God.i

Between Genesis and Revelation the Bible contains the history of the forces of evil attempting to usurp God’s rightful place. This conflict of the ages is over the presence of God in His creation.

Nirvana ahead ...
Nirvana is defined as a place or state characterized by freedom from or oblivion to pain, worry, and the external world. Some of the synonyms are - awakening, heaven, joy, peace, paradise.ii

There are many new age gurus teaching the way to this enlightened place. The way to this place is varied and full of confused thinking. One thing is certain, it is a way one is able to find through self. It esteems the soul, and it is totally outside of and opposite to the teaching of the Bible. One host of a hugely popular television show regularly welcomes and promotes such guests, while personally claiming to be a Christian.

I recently read the writings of someone claiming to be a prophet that can serve as an example of the enemy’s attempt to usurp God’s place.

The author challenged the traditional belief that people must align their will to a divine purpose or they will slip off and do their own thing, i.e. selfishness. He contends that this mindset causes psychic pressure and the vigilance required destroys rest and a sense of genuine self-esteem.

He asks if we have a will, or are we not in fact the ‘Divine Will’ itself. His article renounces the idea that there has ever been a separation or rebellion. As such, there is no need to return to divine union. His conclusion is that all power and resources stored in ‘Divine Will’ are ours as we realize there has never been a separation.

In other words, there has been no fall of man, no sin, and no need for redemption. We have access to God, indeed we are one with God, because we are a part of Him. Does this not sound familiar?
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.iii

Be not deceived ...
Now the serpent was more subtle and crafty than any living creature of the field which the Lord God had made.iv

Satan has not grown weaker, but stronger. From the serpent in Genesis he grows into the great dragon in the book of Revelation.v

The many and varied teachings of the new age are interwoven with truth. Many believe they are following true Christian teaching, while all the while they are being led down a hellish path. If you are not knowledgeable of what the Word of God teaches, you can easily fall prey to these demonic lies.

Consider the things offered in Nirvana and the synonyms used: awakening, heaven, joy, peace, paradise. I started reading the articles I mentioned above, believing they were Christian. They came with a recommendation and had an interesting presentation. I followed the series in an attempt to answer a question I had. The question was - is this Christian or new age?

It became a chore to find the answer. I stopped following the series when I concluded that if I had to work that hard to see if it was Christian it was indeed NOT . The later article I cited above clearly confirmed that conclusion.

When it comes to the deceptions of the new age, I strongly recommend a very different approach. Instead of questioning what is correct or incorrect, look for what is missing!

If you discover a message offering all that God desires for man, without mention of sin, the cross, or the person of Jesus Christ beware! I mean the person of Jesus Christ, God come in the flesh. I see many other Biblical names referenced, even names of God, but consider this strong admonishment . . .
Beloved, do not put faith in every spirit, but prove (test) the spirits to discover whether they proceed from God; for many false prophets have gone forth into the world. By this you may know (perceive and recognize) the Spirit of God: every spirit which acknowledges and confesses [the fact] that Jesus Christ (the Messiah) [actually] has become man and has come in the flesh is of God [has God for its source]; And every spirit which does not acknowledge and confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh [but would annul, destroy, sever, disunite Him] is not of God ... This [nonconfession] is the [spirit] of antichrist ... vi

The conflict of the ages is over the presence of God in His creation. Be vigilant in discerning and look for ...

What is missing!

In his Space Trilogy, the late C.S. Lewis referred to the enemy as "the bent one". I first read that trilogy when I was in my late teens and I remember at the time thinking that it was a very accurate description. It was also the term he applied to those who had either not come to or rejected Christ. I think the term is very fitting. While something which is bent, like a nail or some piece of equipment, may even appear to be "okay", when you try to use it, you quickly discover it is defective. Only God can "straighten us out" and it is done so by the Blood of Jesus Christ. There is no other way.

You touch on a very important topic and we cannot afford to be ignorant of this tactic. When one exams the temptation of Jesus in the Gospels, you see right away that the enemy has no qualms about quoting the God's Word. He did it in the Garden, he did it when he confronted Jesus and he is still doing it. In fact, I think that is his favorite tactic... especially against Christians. He loves to take God's Word and twist it and turn it, manipulating it according to his purpose. This is why it is so critical to look at the whole Word of God, not just a single verse or passage. Does it fit together? Above all, we must diligently seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. He is the one who helps us and teaches us!

Amongst one of my big concerns is the way many Christians view prayer. Taking one or two scriptures, they begin to believe and preach a doctrine that strongly resembles New Age teachings and even witchcraft! I am not talking about miracles for I believe God does them and I certainly believe in prayer. I am talking about when we begin to treat prayer like an "incantation" (though we don't call it that). "Say these words, do this and God will do what you are telling him to do."

I believe with all my heart that displeases God, Barb. Yes, we may ask but we must never fall into the trap of forgetting who we are... and who God is. Prayer must always be done with the attitude of "not my will but thine".

There are many other examples out there but this is just one that I frequently see. We must be very, very careful, be on guard and seek God's instruction and guidance daily.

Blessings!

Thank you K for adding insight to this subject. I couldn't agree more that we must be very vigilant and sensitive to the Holy Spirit to avoid deception. Knowing the Word of God is very important. With that in mind, I shake my head and wonder at the numerous versions of the Bible. It seems there is an increasing number called Bibles which are paraphrases. Some seem cute and contemporary, but I don't even recognize the scripture they are supposedly conveying. They should not be called Bibles. Other versions have eliminated verses.

The NIV has 64,098 less words than the KJV. One NIV editor stated "Certain verses that ... have traditionally been thought to be part of the Holy Writ, were in the judgment of the translators, not present." This is apparently because they relied on a Greek text produced in the 1870's by B. F. Wescott, a London spiritualist. (from the book New Age Bible Versions by G. A. Riplinger)

The new versions are changing passages substituting Jesus Christ for the Christ, Jesus for him, Christ for he, God for he, the Son for a Son, the Saviour for a savior, the way for a way. Many omit Alpha and Omega, equal with God, the creator, virgin born, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. I know passages with the blood are eliminated too but I can't seem to find it now. And I am only skimming the surface of the changes listed. I believe anyone who takes the time to check this will see the work of antichrist!

No matter what someone thinks of the KJV, they need to consider the changes being made to new version Bibles. The new age has infiltrated not only our churches, but the Word of God. What will happen to those who have no foundation in the true Word of God?

How we need to pray!

Blessings,
Barb

What you say is true however... one must recognize that there are some problems with the translation of the KJV as well. Often these errors are due to misinterpretation of words on our part. Language is "living" and definitions of words and phrases have undergone changes since the 17th century. Other times the full meaning is lost in translation for there simply is no precise single word in English (or another language) to convey the full idea of a Hebrew or Greek word. This is a common problem with translation and is just another reason why it is critical for us to seek the Holy Spirit when we read and study God's Word.

I have the luxury of having a "Greek scholar" sitting in the room next to me, though actually he is pouring over his Hebrew homework at the moment. LOL! He has taught me that though we do not have to be a scholar of Biblical languages, it certainly does not hurt to utilize the tools that God has placed in our hands. Nowadays with the click of a button we can compare a number of versions at the same time. We can ask ourselves the question, "Why does this version use this particular word or phrase and another version use this one?" We easily identify the Greek or Hebrew word used, look up the definition from a number of sources and even find other places in the Bible where that exact word is also used.

I know there are people who seem to discourage such scrutiny but I am a firm believer that truth can withstand the most intense scrutiny and indeed I believe it is necessary. It is not enough to know what we believe. We need to know WHY we believe it.

Blessings!

Good blog. Your line "From the serpent in Genesis he grows into the great dragon in the book of Revelation.v" is very profound. Keep blogging. - bibleguy

Thank you bibleguy for the vcr. I agree that it is profound and I am glad you noted it. It makes me wonder that with the obvious increase in power and size, he is so little seen or suspected. There is much said of a believers responsibility and very little said of the power and affect of the demonic on our lives.

Should we not be able to identify his works simply by looking for his MO?
"The thief comes only in order that he may steal and may kill and may destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life and have it in abundance - to the full, till it overflows." Jn 10:10 Amp

Does it not seem by the order of the verse that we must be aware of the thief in order to enjoy the abundance of life in Christ?

Blessings,
Barb
