Yes - I WILL

I will to ...
I will not ...
I will myself to will ...

In the natural realm, will power is what brings us through many things. Is it possible that what we call stubbornness is just will power turned in the wrong direction?

One only needs to start the subject of diet to hear the lament of the lack of will power.

There is a tendency to categorize certain people, as strong willed. There are a myriad of books about strengthening your will power. Let us not forget the instruction books for raising the strong willed child!

In the spiritual man, the will functions differently.

To walk by the Spirit is to walk by the will that is joined to God. The test of genuine spiritual life is the degree in which the will is so joined.

The spiritual man retains his will, but it is no longer centered around his self-life. It is not stubborn, hard or stiff, but yielded to God. It stands at the door of his spirit, awaiting its every command.

How easy it is to follow God when we feel His Presence. What happens, however, when the feelings are dry, arid, and perhaps even pained? This is when the power of the will governs our whole being, directing it to follow the will of God.

Yes, I WILL

As we progress on in God, the determination to follow no matter what, turns on the power of the surrendered will.

Many things in the journey we will not understand. Many times, we will be required to just trust and obey. Many times, we will need to practice the instructions in Ephesians 6 - after having done all you can do, stand!

During all these processes, the ups and downs of emotion, the failures and frustrations, the will leads. The will, surrendered to the purposes of God, takes you through and keeps you set on God's determined course.

Set your will to the will of God. When the road seems too difficult or the path unclear, declare your position ... I will to do the will of God!

Align yourself with God’s will and do not back down. If you find yourself unwilling, pray and declare to God your willingness to be made willing!

This is will power as God intended. Your will totally aligned to His will declaring ...

Yes, I WILL!

You know I really enjoyed you blog - well laid out in clear concise manner - Hebrews 12 begins with a call to set our face towards Jesus, to throw off sin and to consider - all there are acts of the will. But we have a Power that others do not; the Holy Spirit to enable us to WILL.

Thank you watchmanjohn for your comment and recommendation. I agree with you, and thank God daily that it is His power within me that will bring me through.

We can also be comforted that God works within us to cause us to will His will:
[Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you - energizing and creating in you the power and desire - both to will and work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight. Phil2:13 Amp

What a great God we serve.

Blessings,
Barb

Yes Barb that verse from Phil 2 gives us great hope - I like v12 also
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, NIV
Many believers forget that they have to work out what God has put in - that is we have to grow in grace and holiness.

Barb - Great blog - very understanable for a complex subject for me. - thanks. You point about stubbornness being will power turned upside down reminds me of a definition of humor from the TV show M*A*S*H. Hostility is anger turned outward; depression is anger turned inward; humor is anger turned sideways. - bibleguy64

Thank you bibleguy for the vcr. I heard the first two definitions, but not that humor is anger turned sideways. Once again you get a star on the board for giving me a chuckle!

Perhaps I need to consider watching more comedy so I can keep up ... I am more the thriller type.
