Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. (New International Version 1984)- Proverbs 31:30
Our Quiet Sunday afternoon was interrupted by the summons of our eldest daughter into the garden. There she was standing, all five foot nothing, wearing apart from her sunday best, a hard hat, a pair of builders gloves and a pair of high heeled shoes.
"Daddy, as soon as Monday comes this is what I need you to do in the garden for mum, I need the hedge cut, those slabs relaid cause they are uneven and she tripped, I need the board put around that shed that you moved and..." , on and on went the list.
When she had eventually finished my husband told her that it was hard to take a civil engineer seriously when they were wearing heels. ( My dughter graduates in two weeks time and was excited about having a career) .
My daughter reminded him that one does not need to look sloppy to work outside.
We do like to look well, don't we ladies? we impliment the Atkins diet ( Im using it to get into my dress for the graduation), we get our hair coloured when it starts to go grey ( the kids and hubbys fault) . But eventually the pounds creep back up, the hair goes grey again.
Asked by a friend what my daughter intends to do with her degree, her reply without hesitation was this... " Africa, I want to build water pumps to bring fresh water to Africa, so that people can have water to help them live as well as hearing about the Living spring that brings eternal life, and if I get paid in bags of potatoes at least I am working for God not for a BMW".
ladies, I need a scone, the beauty of a slimmer waist is a sacrifice too far for me. That is really not the beauty I crave, rather I want a fear of the lord, therein lies our beauty.
