I called my grandmother on Wednesday at abou 5pm and I didn't get off of the phone until 6:30pm. She has 5 Corgis that are her life, and she talked about them for about 45 minutes and I encouraged the conversation about them since that is basically the main area of her life and has been for the past few years.
After about 30 minutes into the phone conversation, I started to get that urgent phone call from nature, but I was in my car in the parking lot at Lahaye and I could not really go anywhere without ending the phone conversation for a bit or causing a lot of background noise. So I had to hold it.
Well, I got around to the five share Jesus questions, which took her about 5 minutes to answer each of them, even the Heaven and Hell yes/no question. Her spiritual beliefs include "god" as an energy force within her, and from what she said, a lot of her animosity toward Christianity is because of her childhood in Catholicism and some bad experiences with some stupid, ignorant "Christians" who didn't know what the crap they were doing in "living out" their "faith".
When I finally got to the question "If what you are believing was false, would you want to know?" and she said that no one could convince or persuade her, but it would have to be God to show her, if there was some God out there. She asked when I told her about the 7 verses to share with her if it was for class and I told her yes, which may have been a mistake, for she thought it was for some survey or something at the end of reading the verses. However, I figured that God would speak through His Word to her and that that was the only way that she would be "convinced" of the truth, so I left it up to God. We went over the verses and she explained them in light of her own understanding of spiritual matters, so there was no real breakthrough of truth for her, at least not that she expressed.
She did not end up accepting Jesus as Savior and Lord of her life, but oh well. People have been praying for her for years and will continue to until she finally accepts the Lord. Until then, her family and friends will have to show her true Christian love, and maybe even show her some Christian apologetics, until she finally gives in to her need for Jesus Christ. Until then, she'll need prayer.
