1st Cor. 2:29-31, 29. "That no flesh should glory in His presence. 30. But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption; 31, That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord."
The word glory means what/who we give 'weight to'. As christians, believers, we should glory "in the Lord". The flesh sidetracks us sooo much. It is so easy to become vain, deceived, and puffed up in our flesh. Even mature christians. If not really careful, one can get too lofty in their opinions of themselves, and take credit for their maturity, to the point of lifting themselves up above others.
In the flesh, we will be prone to do this. None of us are exempt from this. It is natural for the flesh to satisfy itself, and to deceive itself. Satan knows how vain we are, and all of our weaknesses. Nothing is more successful for him than a person who is deceived and blinded by the vanity of flesh. Surely we are not so blind, that we can not see how and what he used to cause the fall in the garden. Satan appealed to all that would satisfy the flesh, and even make them as gods, in partaking of.
To stay humble in Jesus Christ, we have to realize that without Him, we are nothing, nobody. Even as believers, obedient servants. All that we are and have is only because of Him. To neglect this is to be lifted up in pride, and about to fall. No flesh should glory in His presence. Bar none. Nobody. God is more than able, to lift up, and to bring down to dust. Even satan will be cast down, the one who is now ruler of this world, only through God's allowing.
Personally, I consider myself to be an "unprofitable servant". What good I do, in His service, is only my duty. I only did what I was supposed to do. I also know that without God's grace and mercy, in Christ, and chastisement, when needed, I will surely fail. The only real fruit I bear is because I abide in the vine, Jesus Christ. And He will prune this branch as needed, we do not prune ourselves, HE does the pruning. Only the fire that He sends will purge any dross, as needed, and as He needs to. It is not voluntary on my part either, a lot will be against my will. The blood Jesus Christ shed, is what cleanses, and purges me and my conscience. It is not anything I myself do.
Scripture says God 'grants' repentance. Scripture says that the "goodness of God" is what leads us to repentance. Scripture says that we love Him, because HE first loved us. He came and paid the price for our redemption, long before we got here. He purposed coming, long before anybody got here! What do we have, to glory in, except Him?
He makes us all 'worthy'. If not, then none of us are. We have been through some trying times. Yet, still, "no flesh should glory in His presence". That means nobody. "He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord".
Read the verses really good. JESUS CHRIST, is our wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. Glory in that, praise God! HE is all I could not be! GLORY!
