... All Things Are Become New ...

Soul training on prayer and upward movement.

Listen (my soul), gain as much of an understanding of the process of knowing (awareness, perception, reasoning, and judgment) as you can. Comprehend the logistics of the psyche and receive a true intuitive word on the nature of the soul. Discern the stages, in a loosely held way, of the contemplative knowing of created things and the uncreated operations of the Spirit. Along with this understanding, comprehension, and discernment also ask the Lord (with urgent persistence) for insight into the reasons (logoi) - word, purpose, and essence - of the true Christian life in general.

Evagrius can help you with the three kinds of mental (from the heart) occurrences that correspond to the three stages (progressive transformations) of those spiritual contemplative knowings. At each stage there are representations on each level of objects that press into the mind-of-the-heart, the representations or perceptions of each type of object with their relevant display of God's goodness, wisdom, and providence. First of all, there are the impressions, perceptions, or mental representations derived from things collected by the common senses. They are the imaging of the word (reason, purpose, and essence) of created things.

Secondly there are the intelligible representations from the intuitive noetic realm; the spiritual perception of angels and their reasons and essence of existence. Thirdly, there is the apprehensions of God himself and His apprehension of us or rather union and unity with the uncreated operation of His Spirit (grace). Philippians 3:12.

And so (my soul), it will undoubtedly take years from now until what's left of your earthly life to make progress in spiritual contemplative knowledge. Also to receive a true intuitive word on the soul and get an accurate concept of the logistics of the salvation oriented psyche - person. And further to be transformed gradually by the renewing of your mind-of-the-heart (Romans 12:2), which in itself is a required condition for you to possess the upward movement of all the above (Matthew 5:8).[1].

As you initiate an upward movement through prayer and contemplative knowing, your mind of the heart is purified through obedience of Jesus' commandments and participation in the spirituality granted by the Spirit. This in turn increases your capacity for more of the same only a little more elevated - and so it goes. Through a good and godly habit you will be able to intuitively perceive the things of the hidden-man-of-the-heart milieu and reality.

Look for the mile-stone of transformation (Romans 12:2) from the contemplative knowing of the essence of earthly things to the contemplative knowing of the word, reason, purpose, and essence of angels. Heed every warning of scripture itself not to be distracted by angel or demon, nor by imagination or fantasy in your gradual upward movement toward God. Perhaps with the gift of the wings of the Spirit you will catch a glimpse of the very Seraphim themselves, but only in passing and to pass them by, as not noticing them. Do not wonder in awe at them while in an experience state, for even scripture describes them in such a manner; the fact that we having only one set of eyes while they have many means that we could easily become their pets and yet they are not to be worshiped.

As a true self-deny-er cut off your senses and their impressions at your mind-of-the-heart level and in your heart (go to your prayer closet and shut the door). Then from there, in your prayer, you will be totally focused in the inner entity of the heart reality on the Lord. The objects of that realm will be available for that kind of spiritual contemplative knowing. Old things have passed away behold all things have become new! (2 Corinthians 5:17). The reason is that, because of the humble fact of your spiritual experience, growth, and maturity; even the familiar everyday things around you 'will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace'.[2].

Do not take spiritual things lightly (my soul) or reduce them to natural phenomena. The contemplative knowing of God and the more general knowledge of all things from God could not be experienced by your ratio, ration, rational mind-of-the-brain (which itself is just a small part of your soul). This (which is under consideration) is not that which commonly passes for 'theology' - a systematic study about God - topics, propositions, and speculations on God. This is not a certain grouping of scripture verses out of the possible 20,000 references to God in the Bible, although that can be fruitful.

Why is it not? Because although the Holy Spirit delights in using the experience and inspiration of those men of the Bible (that which is not your experience) to give you a frame of reference to bless or instruct you (2 Timothy 3:16), He prefers that you become one of them in reality and not just parroting their writings as though that is a sufficient method for transformed godliness.

What you want, what you need is intuitive, direct, aware, perceptive knowledge of the reality and milieu of your most inward spiritual realm - the kingdom of heaven specifically within you. The ignition of this direct perception and participation in the ever real spiritual realm and reality is that which guards your mind-of-the-heart, quickened by the life-giving Spirit (Romans 8:11) -namely, -you.[3].

[1]. "Evagrius has an extremely detailed and difficult analysis of the cognitive {the process of knowing: awareness, perception, reasoning, judgment} psychology {logistics of the psyche, true intuitive word on the soul} of the stages of contemplation {contemplative knowing of created things and uncreated operations}, with a great emphasis on the kinds of mental representations that bear into the mind {mind of the heart} the cognitions related to those stages: mental representations which are sense {of the senses} impressions; intelligible {intuitive noetic realm} mental representations such as the reasons (logoi) {word, purpose, essence} of created objects, the spiritual cognitions of angels and the reasons (logoi) {word, purpose, essence} of the angels; and the mental representation of God himself {through the uncreated energies (grace)}. This very difficult contemplative psychology {logistics of the psyche, true intuitive word on the soul} is very important for a theoretical {not readily observable} understanding of the stages of contemplation and of the transformations {Romans 12:2} of the mind {mind of the heart} that are required for their attainment {Matthew 5:8}."

[2]. "As the person ascends {upward movement} through contemplation {contemplative knowing}, his mind {mind of the heart} is purified and he becomes the better able to contemplate, the better able to cognize intuitively the intelligible {hidden man of the heart milieu} reality being contemplated. This especially manifests itself in the transition from the contemplation {contemplative knowing} of the reasons (logoi) {word, purpose, essence} of created objects to the contemplation {contemplative knowing} of the angels: in that transition, or transformation {Romans 12:2}, the ascetic {self-deny-er} puts off the senses and his mind {mind of the heart} is thenceforth focused exclusively on intelligible {inner entity of the heart} objects of contemplation {contemplative knowing}, with the result that he no longer has the same relation to objects of sense {of the senses} that he once had: they become as it were mere shadows of a deeper reality."

[3]. "In Evagrius, the contemplation {contemplative knowing} of God, but also contemplation {contemplative knowing} generally, is not the ascetic’s {self-deny-er's} discursive rumination {ratio, ration, rational, reason rather than intuition} in the mind on various propositions {proposals, speculations} about the goodness of God, the goodness and beauty of his creation, and so on. Contemplation {contemplative knowing} is the intuitive, or direct, cognition {knowing: awareness, perception, reasoning, judgment} of an intelligible {spiritual, inward identity milieu} reality by means of the faculties of direct spiritual cognition of the human mind {mind of the heart}."
