As I went through the daily ordeal of getting up and dealing with a physical body that thinks it is a piece of lumber, I thought about how thankful I was to even be able to get up. As bad as I feel most mornings, compared to the alternatives, I am thankful to be alive.
“I wanna live like there's no tomorrow
Love like I'm on borrowed time
It's good to be alive, yeah”
Jason Gray – “So good to be alive”
Truly the prayer of my heart and soul is to live like there is no tomorrow and love like I am on borrowed time—for I am! When I think back to all the times in my life God stepped in and either saved me from an enemy or myself, I am filled with wonder and have no choice but to bow in humble adoration of His grace and mercy.
We are humans, and because of this we will occasionally grumble and complain about our lot in life. But, as children of God we should quickly renew our minds and realize how much we have to be thankful for. No matter how badly things may be going or how difficult the present time might be, we are still blessed with every spiritual blessing and have been given exceeding great and precious promises by God Himself.
It is so very easy to become negative, angry or full of self pity. It is so easy to freak out, be anxious or filled with panic. It is easy to fall prey to the temptations associated with this world or to succumb to the pressures associated with life. Believe it or not, it is also easy to relinquish all of this stuff to God and be filled with His peace and assurances that “all is well”.
You know, it makes very little difference how good or bad you feel when it comes to praising God. We can praise Him in the good times and the bad. It makes very little difference how rich or poor you are when it comes to being thankful. The greatest things we have in this life are the intangibles that cannot be purchased like love, joy, peace and hope.
If the Lord tarries, each and every one of us will one day find ourselves at death’s door. I pray that when that day comes, we can be filled with thanksgiving for all God allowed us to have and everything He allowed us to do in this life for Him. Oh how I pray when that day comes we are not filled with dread or remorse but rather great expectation for what lies ahead.
We should indeed live each day like there is no tomorrow and love like we are on borrowed time—because we are. Let us resolve to no longer linger charmed by the world’s delights or broken down by the pressures of living. Let us arise and joyfully greet the day with joy and thankfulness (no matter how we feel).
