Some thoughts and observations about this site from an "old timer"
There are a lot of new people on this site, which is very good. There are a lot of people writing blogs for the very first time, which again is very good. This is the middle of summer and people are very busy which is not so good for having the time to read many of the blogs.
It is my understanding that Christian Blog is first and foremost a site for Christians to put into blog format things on their heart and mind on a wide variety of subjects. Although there is a very strong community here with many groups and friendships, the predominant thing that separates this site from many others is that it is a safe place to voice one’s opinions regarding God, His Word, life and other matters of personal importance.
Many moons ago when I first stumbled upon this site late one night, I was immediately struck by the guidelines laid out regarding what was allowed and not allowed in blogging. Having been, at the time, very new to the blogging idea, this was very welcome to me. If this site would have had no rules and allowed anyone to do as they pleased, there is no doubt I would have kept on going and never even signed up let alone write well over 600 blogs.
The security and privacy measures built into this site are incredible. Much bigger sites, some of which demand payment to use them, don’t have the features this site has. I have always been extremely thankful for the sense of security here that anyone trying to use or abuse this place would be stopped by all the safeguards in place. It is sad that a Christian site has to do this, but there is an enemy you know.
One thing anyone fairly new to this site should know is that the status quo doesn’t last long. Those who are entrusted with the oversight of this site, Mr. John Abela and his team, are constantly working to improve not only the technical side of this place, but the community aspect as well. Much time and work have been put into making this site easy to use and a blessing to participate in.
For those of you who have newly written a blog and eagerly awaited fifty comments only to be bitterly disappointed that no one said anything; I am truly sorry. I really am. For quite a long time there were many here who went out of their way to read and welcome new members who wrote blogs. Through a combination of turnover of members and more and more new blogs, this tradition has certainly waned. Please don’t take it personally if no one takes note of your first blog. It may just take two or three before we find you.
For those of us who have been here awhile, I lovingly exhort us to spend a little more time searching out new members and their initial blogs. Didn’t it make us feel really welcomed when two or three people responded to a blog we wrote and put up the signs saying welcome”? I know for me, it was that which convinced me that I had made the right choice in sticking around here.
There is, no doubt, a huge turnover of active members here which is to be expected. Some people drift in here out of boredom and usually don’t stick around. Others pray and are led to this site to find answers or help in a situation or even a crisis they are in. Still others come here in search of either a safe Christian site to blog on or a community of loving believers to become friends with. Whatever was your reason for stopping by here, we are truly thankful you came and hopefully stay awhile.
Unless you were here two years ago, there is no way to comprehend the changes that have taken place on this site in less than two years. Each time Mr. Abela shares news of the newest features added to the site and changes coming I stand in awe of how much time, work, effort and money he has put into making this site what it is. I know of very few, if any, men who would be willing to make the sacrifices John has made to construct this site and strive to make it what it is—the best Christian blogging site on the internet.
To all of you, let me express to you my personal thanksgiving for your willingness to step up this past month and see this site reach its financial goals. It truly is a blessing to me whenever God’s people come together and unite in a common goal. I give a lot to this site, and I had no more to give, but God had others who did and they (YOU) came through like the champions you are.
Finally, I wanted to thank those of you who choose to read what I write. I know there are many blogs here to read and I know that a few of you manage to squeeze mine in daily. That truly means a lot to me and blesses me far more than you could know. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life through the words I write. Thank you for being a part of this community of believers whose one great desire is to be blessed and be a blessing to others.
