The Incredible and Mysterious Book of Enoch |

In the book of Jude, it says in verses 14 and 15 the following:
"Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, "Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints.
To execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have
spoken against Him."
My question is where do we find this prophecy? Is it in Genesis 5:18-24 which is where the record of Enoch is found? Is it found in Hebrews 11:5 where Enoch is mentioned in regard to faith? Is it found in some other book in the Old Testament? The answer to all of the above questions is NO. Nowhere do we find any prophecies of Enoch.
Here is what we know about Enoch. From Genesis we know that his father was Jared. We know that when Enoch was 65 years old, he begat Methuselah (who lived longer than anyone in the Bible). We know that Enoch lived 300 years after he begot Methuselah. We know that Enoch lived on this earth 365 years and he had sons and daughters.
We also know that Enoch "walked with God". We also know that Enoch is the first one of whom this was said. We know that Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. From Hebrew 11:5 we know this about Enoch:
"By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "and was not found, because God had taken him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God."
So, the sum and total of what we know about this man, the seventh from Adam, is:
1. He was the father of Methuselah and the son of Jared
2. He lived 365 years on this earth and had sons and daughters
3. He walked with God
4. He was, and he was not, for God took him
5. God took him so that he would not see death.
6. He was never found
7. He pleased God
Yet, he obviously wrote some very vivid prophecies dealing with the end times that were in circulation at the time of Jude or he would not have quoted from them. The question is thus, where do we find the prophecies of Enoch? There is a simple answer and it is called "The Book of Enoch" which quite honestly, if it had made it in the Bible as it perhaps should have, the entire understanding of the "end times" would be totally different from what it is currently.
Jude quoted from 1 Enoch 1:9 where it says:
"In the seventh (generation) from Adam Enoch also prophesied these things, saying: 'Behold, the Lord came with his holy myriads, to execute judgment on all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their
ungodly deeds which they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which
Noah's grandfather was Enoch and in 1 Enoch 68:1 it says:
"And after that my grandfather Enoch gave me all the secrets in the book and in the parables which had been given to him, and he put them together for me in the words of the book of the parables."
This means that Noah probably had a copy of the book on the ark and that is how it survived. The Book of Enoch is a collection of writings with ample evidence that they were inspired by God. There are numerous fragments found in the Dead Sea Scrolls. The Book of Enoch existed for centuries before Christ and it was considered scripture by many early Christians. The earliest literature of the so-called "Church Fathers" is filled with references to this mysterious book.
Second and Third Century "Church Fathers" like Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Origin and Clement of Alexandria all make use of the Book of Enoch. Tertullian even called the Book of Enoch "Holy Scripture". The Ethiopic Church added the Book of Enoch to its official canon. It was widely known and read the first three centuries after Christ. This and many other books became discredited after the Council of Laodicea, and being banned, it gradually passed out of circulation.
The opening verses of the Book of Enoch tell us that the revelations in this book were not meant for Enoch's generation, but for a later generation. We know that the early Church made use of the Book of Enoch, but it was all lost until recent times. Perhaps this book was meant for our generation. After all, it was totally lost for well over a thousand years and only found in 1773 but is now widely available for anyone to read.
Look at the first three verses of the Book of Enoch and consider the possibilities of what this could mean if the revelation in this book were known by those living now.
"The words of the blessing of Enoch, wherewith he blessed the elect and righteous, who will be
living in the day of tribulation, when all the wicked and godless are to be removed. And he took up his parable and said --Enoch a righteous man, whose eyes were opened by God, saw the vision of the
Holy One in the heavens, which the angels showed me, and from them I heard everything, and from them I understood as I saw, but not for this generation, but for a remote one which is
for to come. Concerning the elect I said, and took up my parable concerning them: The Holy Great One will come forth from His dwelling"
Isn't it incredible that someone who lived thousands of years ago would be chosen by God to receive revelation regarding things to quite possibly take place in our generation! Isn't it interesting how such a revelation somehow managed to "vanish" three centuries after Christ? Isn't it unbelievable to think that our Lord Jesus Christ had probably read and learned what is in a book no one has ever heard of?
There is much that can be learned about what is to come from reading the first section of the Book of Enoch which is the first 36 chapters known as "The Watchers". The other four sections of the Book of Enoch are less reliable than the first. For anyone interested, here is a link to one of many places on line where you can find the one and only translation worth reading. If you do, be ready to have much of your "theology" challenged and your mind "blown away".

Wow... It certainly makes for interesting study! There is much that is profoundly pertinent to the understanding of spiritual warfare; among other things, it tells us about the origins of demons also. I find it very interesting to read about Enoch's authority over fallen angels and I am amazed by the accounts of how mankind was corrupted by the teachings of fallen angels; the origins of occult practices, astrology, war and even cosmetic enhancement! I've only glanced through parts of it and will take some time studying it. Thank you for showing this to me. God bless...

I have this little book with my study books and Bible at all times, as the Watchers, fallen angels and the Council of God are my main studies.
I think it may will be possible we may indeed be who it's for.
I was just looking at another epistle that used to be widely used by the same people you mention - 1Clement - which was on the list of approved books for the Bible in the 5th century. It is again one of those amazing 1st century writings that didn't make the cut. Along with many others of most I have had the privilege of reading.
I don't write of the fallen angels and giants, which play a large role in the O.T.,
1Enoch makes for good reading and opening the mind for some deeper thought on a few subjects not much discussed.
I'll close out this comment, I can be hours talking about this.

Hello,
I would just like to be clear about two things, concerning "the book of Enoch"...
(1) It is an exo-biblical text, and not part of the inerrant, infallible and authoritative Word of God.
(2) It should be considered on the same level as early church fathers and Flavius Josephus. (it was after all, rejected as part of the Biblical Cannon.)
Those two things clearly understood... reading it through once does help to "fill in" a bit of the missing questions many mature Christians will have about a few "missing facts" within the Holy Text itself.

Point taken and I would pray it would be understood by anyone reading this discussion of any book outside the recognized Word of God that such material is only for our learning and is void of any scriptural authority. The only reason for bringing such books up for discussion is to provide, as you say, MATURE believers with resources to expand their base of understanding regarding the scope of God's Word.
Sorry if anyone might have gotten the wrong idea from this post.
