Is the Light "on" inside you?
I was struck (and convicted) by an illustration I heard today. This person said, when the light is bright inside a house, you don't notice or really see what is outside. But ... if the house is dark inside, everything outside is noticable and visible. This is like us. When we are filled with the light of God, we are turned to see the Lord and are focused on His beauty and love and light. BUT ... when we are filled with darkness, others FAULTS are so clear to us, we don't see Christ much less our own faults. Just as when looking out the windows of a dark house, things outside the house seem so much more clear.
Listen to what the Bible says about this:
Matt 6:22,23: The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Matt 5:16, 14: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. ... Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill can not be hid.
II Cor 3:15 - 18: Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect[a] the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
II Cor 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
After hearing that. I got caught. I was seeing the faults of others. And the illustration given caused me to repent - to turn my heart/mind - away from looking at others. I asked for forgiveness, and turned, taking the Word in faith, to see the light of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ! With this repentance comes forgiveness and Light!
What joy! What glory! What peace! I hope that this illustration will touch you as it has me. I pray that you would likewise share in the enjoyment of God as light!
