The difference between a Want and a Need

Money is an issue which alot of people just hate to talk about yet I felt moved to write about it at this time. This issue is one that I believe is responsible mostly for the current downturn in the US economy and for many issues in my own family members' lifes. Most people I feel truly do not know the difference between a Want and a Need. If you ask someone what there needs are they will give you things that truly are not needs. For example; The following are all things that I have had people tell me are needs but truly are not; cell phones, computers, snack food, soda, fancy vehicles, cable or dish tv, ect... . The reason alot of people have gotton into financial trouble is that when they are doing there finances they will fufill their "needs?", then they will attempt to pay bills and not have enough left to do so. Now I do not claim to have never made a mistake financially or to have never bought anything I should not have, but people get this fealing of intitlement and take it upon themselves to make a bad situation worse. When you see college age people driving a vehicle 3x what your current salary is or a high school student texting on a phone that is as much as your mortgage cost. It makes you ask yourself, what am I doing wrong?, maybe I should get one? But we never know to what extent these people are in debt or if someone else is paying the bill. All we know for sure is our own finances, it says in the bible to not live beyond your means. Yes, it does also say that God will meet all your needs in the book of Matthew. But, remember that our basic needs are things like food, water, shelter, not tv, computer, fast food, or cell phones. If someone makes $400.00 a week, dont spend over $400.00 that week, that means not charging it on a credit card or taking out a loan you cant afford.
In the last 4 years I have had two instances where I have been unemployed for 3-6 months. This was very hard as we had a young child at the time, we were newlyweds, and we had a plce of our own one of the times. But, one thing we realized and that helped bring us closer to God was that as long as we tythed and remembered what our needs were we were okay. God has done miracles in my life as I just described as I was the only moneymaker in the family at the time. We must give God credit when it is due and remember to not live beyond our needs. God Bless!

wonderful observation!
There are many things in western culture that we perceive as needs that are not... and I for one find it hypocritical to fuss about materialism because I know I am blessed to be able to get on-line and get into discourse here...Period.

I know this is an issue that is near and dear to your heart.

I know sometimes it looks like other people are living the good life, but you were right, you never know what their debt is or who's paying the bill. Keep on keeping on!

You should blog more often.
