ChristianBlog.Com 2009 Growth

Hello Everybody,

We know that many of our members, and those who are lurkers but never join ChristianBlog.Com, are interesting in the overall growth of the ChristianBlog.Com ministry.

As 2009 has come to an end in the next few hours we felt it was time to put together some numbers to show how well the ChristianBlog.Com ministry has grown this year!

Please note that all of the follow statistics are being generated by the Google Analytics system, which is never a 100% accurate reporting system, as it is dependant upon javascript which many people disable, and that it fails to properly report accurate total page views. For that we have our own tracking software that manages actual page-loads of the website. This is the only stat which we shall present which is not from the Google Analytics system. Based upon our own in-house total page view counter, we started 2009 with ruffly over 56,000,000 page views. Now at the close of 2009 we are a bit over 80,000,000 page views. Google Analytics reports we had 2,048,446 total page views yet our own in-house (and very accurate) counter shows we have had between 24 million and 25 million page views. Obviously that is a huge difference between what Google Analytics reports... so, take the following with that in mind. However, at the end of the day, we have to be judged upon what the "industry" says... and typically Google Analytics is one of the "industry approved" stats providers.

Visits:

Google Analytics defines a "visit" as somebody who visits a website. It does not include how many pages of a website the person visited, just that they visited it.

For 2009 Google Analytics recorded 392,220 visits for the ChristianBlog.Com website.

This means that over 400,000 people visited ChristianBlog.Com at some point in 2009. (Again, remember this number is very much lower than it should be, because of people who disable javascript and those who block the Google Analytics system from their computer.)

Page Views:

Google Analytics defines a "pageview" as each page that is viewed at the website. If person #1 viewed 4 pages of the website and person #2 visited 6 pages of the website, the total page views would be "10".

For 2009 Google Analytics recorded 2,048,446 visits for the ChristianBlog.Com website.

This means that well over 2 million pages of the ChristianBlog.Com website were viewed within a browser during the 2009 year. (Again, remember this number is very much lower than it should be, because of people who disable javascript and those who block the Google Analytics system from their computer.)

Pages Per Visit:

Google Analytics defines "Pages per visit" as how many individual website pages each person who visited a website clicked on in their visit to the website.

For 2009 Google Analytics recorded an average of 5.22 pages viewed by each person who visited the ChristianBlog.Com website.

This means that the average person who visited the ChristianBlog.Com website took the time to view/read over 5 pages of the website before they left. (Again, remember this number is very much lower than it should be, because of people who disable javascript and those who block the Google Analytics system from their computer.)

Average Time on Site:

Google Analytics defines "Average Time on Site" as how long the person who visits a website spent at the website before going to another website or closing their browser.

For 2009 Google Analytics recorded an average of 7 minutes, 21 seconds spent at the ChristianBlog.Com website before leaving.

This means that the average person who visited the ChristianBlog.Com website spent almost seven and a half minutes at the website. This is impressive as it shows that the large majority of the people who have visited ChristianBlog.Com spent a fair amount of time looking around, interacting, and being blessed and hopefully blessing others. (Again, remember this number is very much lower than it should be, because of people who disable javascript and those who block the Google Analytics system from their computer.)

% New Visits:

Google Analytics defines "% New Visits" as what percentage of the people who visit the website have never visited the website before.

For 2009 Google Analytics recorded an percentage of 70.93% of the people who the ChristianBlog.Com website as people who have never visited before.

This means that over 70% of the people who have visited the ChristianBlog.Com website in 2009 were first-time-visitors. (Again, remember this number is very much lower than it should be, because of people who disable javascript and those who block the Google Analytics system from their computer.)

Traffic Source:

Google Analytics defines "Traffic Source" as where the person visiting the website has come from.

For 2009 Google Analytics recorded the following data for the ChristianBlog.Com Website:

Search Engines 286,989.00 (73.17%)

Direct Traffic 55,062.00 (14.04%)

Referring Sites 50,129.00 (12.78%)

This means that over 70% of the people who have visited the ChristianBlog.Com website in 2009 found ChristianBlog.Com via search engines, over 14% came to ChristianBlog.Com via a bookmark/favorites on their computer or via an email link, and that over 12% came to the ChristianBlog.Com from a website where a link to ChristianBlog.Com had been posted. (Again, remember this number is very much lower than it should be, because of people who disable javascript and those who block the Google Analytics system from their computer.)

When somebody visits the ChristianBlog.Com via a search engine, the terms the person used within the search engine (google, yahoo, etc) are recorded and are called "key words".

The following key words were the most popular key words that brought people to the ChristianBlog.Com website in 2009:

John:

Thanks for providing this summary of the year. You have done an amazing job of managing (that's everything from overall design and admin to emptying the trash) this wonderful ministry.

Thanks to those who are members here, wonderful folks who write and comment and pray and support. You are the heart of this ministry.

And thanks to those who are visitors. We welcome you, hope that we minister to you. Consider becoming a member so that we cn also get to know you.

The one glaring stat missing in this summary is the financials. We all know that this has been a very tough year worldwide financially. To say that CB operates on a shoestring budget is a gross understatement. Please consider supporting this ministry financially. Just a little from many could make such a difference.

May you all have a blessed and safe 2010.

Shalom, Art

Hello Art,

Yes, I did totally forget the financial side of things. Not sure why but I rarely tend to think of sharing that side of things.

The total financial inflow has been a bit under $8,000 including Premier Membership, donations, advertisement, and so forth. This is the best year we have had financially since we went online back in 2005.

Considering ChristianBlog.Com is a full-time ministry for me, I suppose one could say that your statement "a shoestring budget is a gross understatement" does fairly well explain my circumstances.

For anybody who would like to help me continue to be able to continue this ministry, I would very much appropriate any financial gifts you can give.

We have available a donation system as well as a Pledge Drive which offers individuals the ability to have a monthly auto-donation to ChristianBlog.Com from your bank account.

Without some sort of major increase in financial inflow in the months ahead I just cannot see how I can continue to operate ChristianBlog.Com on a full-time basis for very much longer.

Thank you Art -- and thank you to the other 44 people that have donated to ChristianBlog.Com ministry throughout 2009!

For Christ's Ministry,
John B. Abela

I'm on dial up as well. the changes being made greatly reduce load times. John just keeps tossing us little improvements, many of which go unnoticed.

Do you notice any significant different in load times between the old (logged in) home page and the new (logged in) home page?

Thank you.
