Greetings Christian Bloggers,
For the better part of the last three years (2008-2011) over 80% of the financial support that has come into ChristianBlog.Com has been through one-time donations that our bloggers have sent our way.
Over the last 6 months that 80% number has decreased to less than 1% of our financial inflow. This has put us in a rather tight spot. We have, for the last few years, been greatly depending upon donations as the means to cover our monthly expenses.
In the 6+ years that ChristianBlog.Com has been online we have never had a profitable quarter. Each month that ChristianBlog.Com has been online it has been a negative cash flow month for the owner of the ChristianBlog.Com website.
We know in the past we have asked our bloggers to push themselves in givings to help us through hard times. We understand that hard times are upon the vast majority of the nations of the world this year. We also understand that a website these days have very few ways in which to generate funds to keep them operational.
What we do not know is what has caused this drastic change from over 80% to less than 1% of financial support to simply stop. We are unaware if it has been a result of changes that we have made that have made our bloggers unhappy and unwilling to continue to support us. If such is the case we really would like to hear from you - perhaps we have made a change to our website that we are unaware of that have made our blogger unhappy. Such things do happen when you have a website as large as ChristianBlog.Com is, especially when your users are from so many different nations as all of you who make up the ChristianBlog.Com Community.
We do not know when ChristianBlog.Com will become profitable without relying on the financial support of our members - and perhaps we never will. Perhaps ChristianBlog.Com is suppose to always be a 100% member-supported website - we know that many of our bloggers feel that way. Or, perhaps, the direction we are suppose to go is to do away with all of our advertisements and do away with seeking donations from our members, and do away with offering free membership, and just put into place a system where all of our bloggers have to pay to be members of the website - this is a direction that many other blog services providers have had to do in the past in order to keep paying their bills.
At this time less than one-percent of our members are monthly supporting members, what we call Pledge Partners. In fact we have never had even close to one percent of our overall membership financially supporting this wonderful ministry website.
With such a low number of our overall members not financially supporting this ministry it makes it even more understandable why we have relied so much on one-time donations over the last three years. In the last six month only one person has sent in a donation each month. Two months ago we had two people send donations, but it was only that one month that we have had more than one person send in a donation.
The owner of the website, John B. Abela, has been able to keep the website operating over the last few months by selling off thousands of dollars worth of personal property, and has been applying it as sparingly as possible when it was needed. As a community-based website we simply cannot continue to expect this of him. Eventually, he will probably run out of things in his rented house to sell - which he admits would not be all that bad of a thing to have happen, except for selling the cat of course, that would probably get him in trouble.
The ChristianBlog.Com website grows by over 150 new bloggers every month. That is 900+ new bloggers since the start of the year. Whether you are a new blogger to our website or have been around for many years, we want to reach out to all of our bloggers and put forth the reminder that ChristianBlog.Com is not a website owned by a multi-million or multi-billon dollar company. It is run on a shoe-string budget (and most of the time that shoe string has had to be tied back together in places) and with over 80% of the monthly inflow having dried up this year, well, we need some fresh water flowing through what is becoming a valley of death from the dryness.
Three days ago ChristianBlog.Com announced that we have had 14,725,361 (nearly 15 million) verified page views in the last 365 days. This is an insanely huge number of page views for a website our size. If we were to sell our website it could easily be sold for millions of dollars simply due to how many people visit and read this website. Yet that is not our goal. ChristianBlog.Com does not exist to make millions of dollars for the owner of this ministry. Rather it exists to minister to the millions of Christians around the world. In the end though, this can only happen if those who use this ministry are willing to step forward and help make sure that we stay online.
