Over the last 72 hours we have been rolling out a new system to attempt to censor out inappropriate words within the ChristianBlog.Com website. We have been using the same bad word system since we started the website nearly 8 years ago and it has started to show its age. We have recently developed a whole new system and have been getting it added throughout the website over the last three days.

As of this time both of the systems are turned on until we are confident that our new filter will work far better than our existing filter does. All tests indicate that is capable of being a much more aggressive filter at detecting words that are not appropriate for a Christian website.

We would like to point out that we are checking for hundreds of bad words (our list is presently 900 words we consider unacceptable) and that there have been reports that our new filter is filtering out words that it should not. If you encounter such a situation please contact us and we will investigate the issue. The simple fact that the English language is such a complicated language makes trying to create powerful word filtering difficult.

How They Differ:

Besides being a much more powerful filter, our new system has the ability to process thousands of bad words very quickly, allowing us to continue to expand our list of words that are considered Inappropriate. This will allow ChristianBlog.Com the ability to quickly and easily remain pro-active about filtering out new words that present themselves that we consider to be inappropriate.

Since ChristianBlog.Com went online we have had a 99.99999% success ratio of stopping inappropriate words from being posted. There have been two instances in the history of ChristianBlog.Com where a member with ill-intent was able to find a way around our bad word filtering. We were able to quickly detect these offenses, remove them from our website, and terminate the accounts. Our goal is to continue this extremely high rating of filtering out bad words and continue to provide a safe online website for Christians around the world.

Previously when our website detected a word that it felt was inappropriate it would replace the potentially offended word with an icon ( ) - if it even allowed the potentially offending word through.

What we have done is now the icon will be replaced with asterisks (such as: *****) to help draw less attention to the potentially offending word.

In Closing:

We expect to have the entire website using our new Inappropriate Word Filter by the end of this week.

Should you encounter a word that you feel should not be getting filtered, or that should be and is not, please contact us.

Once we have finished the roll out of our new filter and have finished testing our new filter we will turn off the old filter. When we have completed this process we will update this announcement with notification that we have done so.

Please be aware that as long as both of the filters are running, the website may continue to filter words that it should not be filtering. Two examples of this would be "titus" and "breasts" (which are two words our old filter took offense too.) In some places of the website these words will continue to be censored out until such time as we turn off the old filter.
