Thanks for letting me try this feature John.. it is good for prayer partnering, sharing one on one without interruptions. Is there limitation on how many teams(of 2persons) max can use this facility at one time?

All Premier Members are able to initiate a private chat with any other member of the website, so long as the other member is within their Friends/Contact list.

Thanks John for your prompt response - My question on limitation may not have been so clear - I wondered if this feature will become so popular that we would have to queue to get our turn on the facility which may have limitations on volume it can cope with.

Hello,
I would find it hard to think ANYTHING could bring down our new Dedicated Server that we got a few months back... including this feature.
This is one of the reasons that Donations are soooo important to ChristianBlog.Com right now! If we can afford to keep the Dedicated Server, there is nothing stopping us from growing and adding more great features like this one!
Blessings,
John

I have encountered the block on my work computer. To be honest I know that I would be happy to wait until I got home to use this feature.. But it is such a cool feature.
I would be inclined to honour the security the schools have in place.. after all I would only have to give myself detention if I allowed my work to slip while chatting too much
ty so very much

Yeah, it is a tough choice for me...
As much as I want to help folks chat...
As much as the programmer in me wants to make things always work...
I have to stop and think about what is "best" -- beyond just me and I and us.
Very good to hear it is working at your house!

The past two times I've logged in I have not seen the "Your Online Friends" in the account notifications. Does this pop up only when my friends are online or is it supposed to be there all the time?

Hopefully it only shows up when you have friends online.

Ok because both Galahad and Shani were online and I've never had that thing showing that they were on here. (if that makes any sense)

You are not a Premier Member. As stated above... only Premier Members have access to this feature right now. It's mentioned under the "Limited Access" section of the blog

Ahh ok! So if I get a private chat message it's just a tester and I can't actually use it?

You can use it. As I've said in many places now, only Premier/Gold members can *initiate* a Friends Private Chat. Key word there

Hello All,
Two quick notes:
(1) I have gotten a private chat message from a friend who said that it was causing some serious delay in load-time between pages. I have not encountered that on my end but if anybody else has noticed this *please* let me know! If this fun little feature causes the website to run slower, it is cause for concern.
(2) I realize some of you might be very concerned about the privacy of this whole thing. I am working on developing the privacy end of things today and probably should have it finished up tomorrow. As this feature is only accessible (by that I mean only Premier/Gold Members can initiate a private chat, but free members can be chatted with) to Premier/Gold Members, it is not tooo much of a concern at this point. The privacy settings will focus on two primary settings: (1) Allow yourself to not be shown as 'online' and (2) not allow people to contact you via this new Friends Private Chat.
Together I think those two privacy settings should just about nullify any existing privacy concerns. Speak up now if you feel otherwise.

John, I have just been (private) chatting with mumbly and we both found that our home page kept disappearing and reloading as we were typing. It has never happened before so I am assuming it is something to do with the private chat (which I think is a wonderful creation! )

So, let me see if I understand this...
You are logged into the website
You are on the home page
You are yapping with somebody else via the new private friends chat
and the home page mysteriously goes blank

On my home computer, I also have the "problem" of the home page refreshing frequently. I think it hapens each time some change takes place on the home page, but it could be at a regular timed interval. I find it to be a pain, but have learned to live with it.
If you go to another page, one that will not likely have frequent changes, you will probably avoid this inconvenience.

Ah now I think I understand...
So you are on the (logged in) home page and the page refreshes and your chatroom disappears until the page is finished reloading.
Yes, very annoying - I've had it happen to me once or twice.
The home page is designed to refresh automatically every three minutes, so that your content stays fresh and up to date.
I could increase these to five minutes, but it is not something I want to just do away-with all together.

Hello Everybody,
Ok we have gotten the ability to turn-off the "Online Friends" feature - and thus turn-off the ability for you to initiate a private chat with your friends - and thus turn-off the ability for your friends to initiate a private chat with you.
You can access this setting any time by going to the "Account" at the top of the website, and than underneath the "Privacy" section click on the "Friends Private Chatroom" option. (or you can click here to quickly access it)
The option is very simple... either a "Yes" (to have it be enabled) or "No" (to turn it off).
We understand that not all of our members want the ability for others to contact them one-on-one (outside of private messages) so we offer the ability to disable this feature.
We also understand that for a few people, the Private Friends Chat feature might cause a undesirable delay in the amount of time it takes to load each webpage at the ChristianBlog.Com website. Though we have tried very hard to make the private chatroom not cause any delays in page load-time, we do understand that for some people it just seems to adversely effect them.
We also undersatnd that some times you might be accessing the ChristianBlog.Com website from a location where a private chatroom is not allowed (a workplace or an educational facility for example). Having the ability to totally disable the private chatroom helps you stay compliant with any policies on your end.
How It Works:
It works rather simple:
If you set your Privacy Settings to indicate "Yes" than we will display a list of Friends/Contacts who are online and who you can chat with (so long as they have not disabled the setting on their end.)
If you prefer to not have the list of your Friends/Contacts display, and thus not have the ability to contact them within a private chat (and they will not be able to contact you either) than you will need to indicate "No" to the Privacy Setting option.
ChristianBlog.Com takes personal privacy very serious and we are continually working to help ensure your highest level of privacy is possible.
Thank you,
John B. Abela

I like both this new feature AND the ability to turn it off when I am in the middle of writing or reading a blog I need to think about.
More great work, Sir John!

Hello Everybody,
For those of you who have not figured it out yet...
This feature is now available to ALL MEMBERS of ChristianBlog.Com - not just Premier/Gold members!
So, if you are not able to see the little private chat icon... than something is probably wrong.
Blessings and enjoy!
John
