DUST
Hello all. Great to be back here at CB. It´s been a while. Lots of new faces and lots of changes. Wow. Been lurking around a bit lately. I´ve been working and reading and growing. Praise the Lord for this day. Here´s the blog.
DUST
I´m reading a book titled The Tao of Physics. It basically explores the parallels between the science of physics (Einstein et al.) and Eastern religions/philosophies. Fascinating stuff really. As always, these topics end up broadening or fleshing out my Christian faith. Funny how that happens. Anyways, the human body is made up mostly of water, right? Wrong.
Early in the text the author (Fritjof Capra - a physicist) gives an illustration about the structure of atoms. He says that if we enlarged a single atom to the size of the dome of St. Peter´s Cathedral in Rome the nucleus would only be as big as a grain of salt. The electrons buzzing around the outer limits of the now enlarged dome sized atom would be specks of powder. So the majority of the atom is actually empty space, or air. The electrons spin so rapidly that the atom appears to be like a solid ball (think how a rapidly spinning fan looks like a disc). OK, basic physics, right?
Now, Capra continues later saying that if we could somehow stop all movement in the atoms that compose the human body - no more spinning electrons - and then compressed all these particles, the resultant matter would be the size of a pinhead. So really the human body is made up of mostly... air? Where have we heard this before?
"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed life into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." Genesis 2:7
"For dust you are, And to dust you shall return." Genesis 3:19
Could the dust spoken of here be subatomic dust? Could the movement and life that is the very space and air that fills our atoms be the breath of God? As I said before, I embrace science. When it is pure it seeks truth and therefore finds God.
