Salvation at the last minute

I have what is perhaps a very childish hope. I can't really say that it is a belief, but it is such a strong hope that maybe it rests on the fringe of belief. It's about last minute salvation. For everyone.

For the devout non-Christian, whether Buddhist, Muslim, Jew, Hindu or any other... I hope Christ can appear to them at the last moment of their life and invite them to join Him in eternity. If they have followed "the way, the truth and the life" faithfully, obeying Christ to love one another then perhaps, at the very last moment of their life, Jesus appears and invites them to embrace the Father. Because if they truly believe in love then they truly believe in Christ. These individuals, if pure and loving in their hearts, could never refuse His invitation to enter into everlasting love. They would no doubt agree with and accept everything that is Jesus Christ.

And even those who tried their best, but often failed (that would be the rest of us). I believe that Jesus can appear to them at their final moment and invite them also into His Kingdom. Why not? Because they didn't profess their faith? Because they weren't baptised? Because they sinned? And what of it? Can we limit the glory of God? The way we might measure one's life and its consequences must be a far cry from how God sees things. And even those who believe often fail miserably, but it is never too late for them is it? In that last breath could God not stretch out His hand and stretch out time to give the sinner a last chance at salvation? Who are we to say no? And who would say no to Him?

Then we come to the killer. The violator. The one that rants and raves in demonic praise of evil and lives only to see Christ crucified again and again. The liar, the cheat, the thief and the murderer who is knifed or gunned down in a heinous transgression against God and his fellow man - what of this man? Is time stretched out for him as well? If not for him - if especially not for him - then for who? Would Christ withhold His healing mercy from one so profoundly ill and dying?

When Jesus heard it, He said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance." Mark 2:17

Yes we must repent, but in God's eyes, for Whom a thousand years is a day, is there a minimum amount of time we must live in repentance? Those who accept Christ indeed have a responsibility to love and spread the Good News and they do this out of conviction. In no way, however, does this include the ultimate judgement of others.

So here is my childish hope, that all may enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, at any point in life - even in its last breath. The Spirit can transform a life at any moment for those who will receive Christ's healing grace. We can never fully understand this wonderful mystery that fell upon the thief on the cross. Love hopes and with God all things are possible.

Amen brother . . . as long as life remains in us there is hope. However, none of us knows when the last beat of our heart will occur. Therefore, no one should bank on this truth. Today is the day of salvation!

Clay,

I have that same childish hope.

I want Heaven to swell with all of God's creation.

Let's pray every day that we're given for the salvation of those yet lost.

Much love in Christ,

Virginia

Several years ago, the 20 year-old son of a minister I knew took his own life. He was about the age of my own son. I'd seen this minister and his wife just a few weeks before. They had been so hopeful. It seemed like God was really moving in the life of their son. He had just started getting his life back together. They could tell that his heart had started to become tender toward God. He was happier than they had seen him in a long time. He had asked to go on a short trip with his dad and his father so enjoyed that trip. Then, the young man's girlfriend abruptly broke up with him. He went home and took his own life. His parents found him.

Christian brothers and sisters surrounded them with their love. Words don't do much at times like these. The wounds are too raw. So we reached out our arms and just held them. A few weeks later, the father and I were talking. He brought up his son and mentioned this very thing. Was it possible that his son cried out to God in those last moments. Was there enough time. I remember I replied that while no one could say for certain what happened I did know one thing. God's time is not our time. We might not think there is enough time but with God all things are possible! The father looked at me with tears in his eyes and told me that was just what he and his wife had been thinking as well. He just wanted to hear it.

What I do know is that God desires that none of us should perish[bible]Matthew 18:11-14[/bible] While we are free agents, I truly believe that God will do whatever he has to do and give us every to choose him!

I believe with all my heart that as long as there is even the end of life in us it's not to late for forgivness.
But I would not recommend one wait that long, it's a risky gamble.

Amen with all of you! A beautiful sentiment, clayonmyeyes, which illustrates the grace and mercy of our God. I agree with your dream here. Love in Christ, Robert.

Yet we know that not all will be saved, and God warns that His Spirit will not always strive with man. There is such a thing, I am told, as going "too far" out of the will of God.

Oh, I do have the same hope, and not at all childish or unfounded !

And if I may, I have another childish hope: That as people are deep in dementia and Alzheimers, in their final moments the Lord Jesus appears to them and they have a moment of mental clarity in which they receive Him.

I know we are not supposed to respond to other people's comments within another member's posting, however the comment made by Grace has really touched my heart and I must reply.

Our God is Love, He is merciful, and He knows each of us better than we know ourselves. To him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. Jesus said: "If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin. . . ." Our God only holds us accountable for what we know. This is why I have complete assurance of the security of anyone who does not know. This includes aborted babies, children who have not reached the age of responsibility (which varies with each child), the mentally retarded, and those who loose their mental capacity at some stage in life. Our loving God is not going to punish us because the devil has stolen our minds.

God is Love and it is not His will that any should perish. If God can create galaxies by speaking a word then He can communicate with those who are mentally challenged.

Praise be to God, who is LOVE, and Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Blessings from NC

Clay,
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
I believe from the first breath until the last,
He waits for us!!!!!!

Hebrews 13:5

I will never leave thee,
nor forsake thee.

Isaiah 30:18

And therefore will the Lord wait,
that he may be gracious unto you,
and therefore will be exhalted,
that he may have mercy upon you.

BLESSINGS!!!

My grandmother is Roman Catholic, and I was brought up with Protestant beliefs. She is 90 years old. I asked her on the phone if she knows that Jesus loves her, and she answered, "Oh yes, I've been in contact with Him." Praise Him!
My former Pastor is 91 years old and stricken with Alzheimers' disease (deterioration of the memory). We visited him in the nursing home. At first he didn't remember us, but when I called out "Jesus!" he suddenly came around a bit, and repeated the name of a friend who was also there to visit him. Praise His precious presence. There is power in His name.

I certainly believe that as long is truly repentive and truly understanding what it takes to come fully unto Jesus, that even in a last few precious moments of life one can be saved. I believe this because I have witnessed it with my own father. He had many, many issues, much of his own doing, but in the final couple of years and especially last few months of his life I truly saw a difference, and I honestly feel that he had committed his way unto Christ.

Afterall, the scriptures do say that when Jesus was dying on the cross with the thieves in between him, the thief asked for forgiveness and Jesus replied today you shall be with me in eternity.
