Should Christians store up a thirty day supply of food?

I'm probably as far from being a Chicken Little, "The Sky is Falling!" kind of a person as you will ever
meet, but I have read David Wilkerson's book "The Cross and the Switchblade," and have heard some
other things about him that has caused me to have great respect for this man.

So when I read that he says we should have a 30 day supply of food, I dropped by Smart and Final and spent 100 dollars on some
non periishable food.

A 25 pound bag of long grain brown rice only costs twenty dollars, and can be stored for years.

God has always provided for my basic needs even when I was hitch-hiking around without any money,
but if David is right, it might be nice to have some food for our children, and our neighbors.

Anyway I was impressed to pass this information along.

God Bless you and yours, and your ministry.

What ministry? If you are a Christian you have a ministry, it goes with you whereever you go.

Lv Vance

Yeah I have heard about the Book. I haven't read it so i can't comment on the substance. I did think for a moment about gathering more supplies.

"Should Christians store up a thirty day supply of food?"

This question is a good one. I would like other christians opinion on this matter.

" The wise man sees trouble coming and hide, but the foolish don't and suffer for it..." Proverbs.

or in an other way,

["...Proverbs 22:3 (Whole Chapter)
[Proverbs 27:12; Proverbs 14:16] The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it...]

The Lord said that we should never put the Lord God to the test that he will take care of us, if we can avert danger while it is still far off. May you be blessed. Amen.

If anyone would like to read more from David Wilkerson, go to worldchallenge dot org.
This is his ministry web site. I was curious as well, when I had read the warning on some of the other sites. I googled his web site and have read it right from him. I think it might be wise to be prepared.

The wisdom of our grand parents who survived the great depression seems to have been lost in this generation (something we see the Israelites doing time and time again in the Word)

I personally have always got at least 30 days and more put away. Easy enough to can some stuff, put away rice, etc. We took to raising chickens for the freezer, and buying 1/2 a cow rather than week-by-week shopping a long time ago, both to save money, have food ahead, and for health reasons. No steroids or hormone treatments.
My wife and I believe we should be able to help others at all times as well. If you are not prepared, you can't help others. There is no testimony greater than when you can reach out in a tough time in a 'real' way. It can really open the door to witnessing in a powerful way.
This winter we experienced a severe ice storm up here in the northeast, with 1,000's out of power for weeks, right in the middle of winter.
It was a taste of what is to come. There is more than just food to think about.

I do not believe in panicking or hoarding, or any 'survivalist' mentalities. That is against God's Word. We do not worry for tomorrow, just exercise wisdom. (Joseph had the same idea back in Egypt)

As for David Wilkerson, I read his and Nicky Cruz' books when I was a youngster, and would encourage anyone to get them ('The Cross and the Switchblade', and 'Run Baby, Run' which was my favorite)
