Book Review: Your Pal, Steve
Your Pal, Steve, written by Steve Peifer, published in 2006, is a compilation of e-mails that spans a five year period of time, telling the story of Steve and his family's journey from Texas to Kijabe, Kenya. They begin working at a school for children of missionaries, but as time goes on they develop a food program and computer program for the children of Kenya. The e-mails chronicle their new life in Kenya, the wonderful friendships, the sad realities of daily life for the poor people of Kenya, the need for food, education. Steve's e-mails are at once educational regarding life in Kenya, humorous as he tells of his travels, struggles with language, encounters with the wildlife of Kenya, and then very emotional as he shares his encounters with the poorest of the poor children in the schools and churches of Kenya, tells of the cost of feeding children one school at a time, or how the computer program is slowly but surely growing. You will be blessed for reading the book. It is a very moving, very readable book. Steve's words are very down to earth, written to his friends, his church members, fellow Christians -- sharing his love of the work they have embraced, sharing his love of the people of Kenya, sharing God's love throughout the book. Please share your thoughts if you do get the opportunity to read the book.
