John 3:16
I'm sure most of you know what John 3:16 says. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." I'm sure you know what it says, but have you really taken time to understand what it really means instead of just quoting it really fast and thinking "I've known that verse for forever."
Read it again and actually think about what it's really saying:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
God loved us so much that He sent His precious only child to die a terrible, horrible, shameful death on the cross to pay for all the things we've done wrong (that we chose to do wrong). He allowed His Son to take on all the sins any human has committed, is committing, and will commit. He let His Son take on all of them like He did them. He did this because He loved this so much, and He doesn't want to spend eternity away from any of His precious creations. The least we can do is trust in Him and believe. If we do this, we will live eternally with Christ and Him.
When I really think about what this verse is saying, it moves me to tears every time. If it doesn't touch you at all, something's wrong. This isn't just a verse we should just quote without thinking about it. I think many times we miss really important things because we just try to memorize verses without thinking about them.
This week, with Easter being on Sunday, think about verses that are quoted a lot, and think about what they really mean. God could really speak something to you. This is my challenge to all of you, and I will do it to.
God Bless! Have a good Easter, and remember why we celebrate it.
In Christ,
Liz
