"not very human"

I've been thinking about a lot of things recently, and the first thing I decided to blog, was the whole "not very christian thing". I don't know how many of the people reading this knows what I mean. Okay, I'll try explain...

Say you are having a bad day, and someone says something that upsets you or annoys you or something, and you maybe reply a bit sharply or shortly or something... and then someone says that "that wasn't very christian of you!"

Or taking it to the extreme, i know a christian guy... and he's not the nicest guy... he's a drug dealer and a rapist... (and i learnt the second part the hard way (but that is another thing) and all of that 'isn't very christian of him'

But surely it isn't very humane of him either? why should it be only christian's that have a duty to be good?

(I hope all of this has made sense, I have a feeling that it hasn't)

I think that when you become a christian, it's almost like you're branded for life, your job is to be the good samaritan. I know what you're feelin like in this post.. It is hard sometimes. You almost feel like, around your secular friends, you have to be perfect. Well, at least that's the way I feel. I, personally, have a very good reputation.. but that's all I have. I've never done drugs, I don't smoke, I don't drink, I'm a virgin, I don't cuss, I don't raise my voice, I'm in love with the Lord.. But no one sees that. Just the second I slip and do something wrong, everyone is all over me because I'm the 'christian.' My reputation as the sweet girl is out the window, because I let one word slip. I think we just need to learn to get over the fact that someone may think of us differently because of one mistake. The Lord knows our heart, and He's so sweet and so forgiving.. Why let a few people bring us down? Just let the Lord be your rock in situations like this, know that He knows your heart, and you aren't a bad person. So what if we aren't perfect? The King of Kings is in love with us! Nothing beats that.. No harsh comment.. no slap to the face, nothing.
He's so wonderful.
Be Blessed...

It is very hard when people constantly throw your religion in your face. And I tell people the same thing every time (although I have lost the majority of my secular friends since becoming a Christian.) I tell them that become a Christian does not remove all sin from my life. It doesn't not make me any better than anyone else. I am still human and I still have flesh and I will still sin. The difference is that I have committed my life to Christ and I strive to not sin. But I will still stumble and fall. But Jesus will be right there waiting for me to help me back to my feet and to help me pick up the pieces!

Remember Matthew 7:14 tells us But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. He didn't say it would be an easy road! Think of small narrow roads. They aren't easy to navigate. They are hard and challenging! But He is faithful! Philippians 4:13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Emma,

One reason is that being "humane" means so many things to different people. The danger of relativism comes in ("well at least I don't do this or that" becomes an excuse to do most anything). But being Christian partly means to seek out the truth of God rather than the reality of this world. With the Holy Spirit as our guide we know many times between right and wrong, because we are witness to the ultimate wrong (Christ's crucifixion) and the ultimate love/right (His forgiveness/resurrection). We aren't better than anybody else - we just have a better guide.

Blessings,
Vince

I think we all have a duty to do good, not just Christians. People our age are very critical and enjoy to catch you out. You can be "Christian" 99% of the time and yet still people see your faults, despite having so many of their own. It's a fact that we must live with I guess. Though it all you musn't loose heart though. God is with you always.

God bless

Well, as christians, we are the ones who have a "bullseye" on our backs. You can talk about most any religion in the world and most people are okay with that. But you talk about Jesus? People become offended! We have to remember that it is the gospel that is offensive:

"To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?"

2 Corinthians 2:16 NKJV

The world looks at us and waits for us to fall. We are called hypocrits and our eyes are "poked out" for every time we make a mistake. Its unfortunate that people do not realize that God sets us free to live for Him, and through Him. We are not perfect, only forgiven. The question for all of us is this, do we keep persevering in our faith? Press on when we fall? Allow Him to "change and mold us", as the potter with the clay? Or do we give up?

The world does have its own set of "morals", but when push comes to shove, if God is not the rock, the foundation of all that you believe? You will fall eventually!! it's a given!

ive been doign ministry for many years and believe me, there is always someone waiting for you to either make a mistake, or take pleasure in your misfortune. Sadly enough, they do not realize that any damage they may be trying to do to you? Is nothing compared to how they are hurting themselves! When I came to Christ I lost all my friends save one, the one that encouraged me to seek God! The rest? I found out were never my friends anyway! And to this day, he is like a brother to me.

As far as this world? Should christians be the only ones behaving? Of course not! But when God is not in their lives, satan is! That is just reality! And I know many nice non-christians, but being nice, never gets us into favor with God! nor, does it make "fair and honest". And it gives us no moral ground to stand on in the hard times.

We also, have to remember that God appoints those in power (romans 13 I believe, if I remember correctly?), whether it be the police, goverment, etc. Why? To help govern a world of people who do not follow Him! If they are not going to follow God, they will follow someone who is willing to punish them here! And those that do not? Well, we all know what happens. Sadly enough.

If the world were full of only believers? There would be no reason for much of the laws we have! We? were not perfect by any means, but when Christ is ruler in our hearts, we are led by Him!!!

You spoke about a friend, a drug dealer, a rapist and a christian? Something seems to be really "amiss" here? That goes beyone jsut common mistakes we make. Personally, I do not see how you can claim Christ and live such a life. that would need some serious evaluating.

The Lord bless you!

Sincerely in Christ's love,
John

Hi, I came by your posts as I was skimming though the prayer posts. First I pray you are doing okay out there somewhere. Second please know by your profile sounds like God created a wonderful, beautiful person in you. I know life may get crazy just know God is there. Waiting and listening to you always. Just so you do not think I am some nut job. I wanted to tell you that I have been in that situation before to, just the other day my family was in the van backing out of the driveway...we live a a very busy road...and this truck came around the corner and almost hit us and instead of stopping just went by the side of us and blew their horn. Now here's where I come in, I roll down my window and start yelling "you idiot..watch out". Not noticing my neighbors who are not church people watching me. After it was over my husband questioned my actions saying" That was not real christian like?" Well yeah I know! I was so mad at him for pointing that out for like an hour. Then I realized it's not the fact that it's not christan like it's the fact that I am a sinner and I will mess up. To the world acting christian like is BEING just like christ and well... we will never be just like him. So I don't revel in my sin but hopefully learn from it and now I do watch my actions. Anyways that was a long comment sorry. Maybe talk with you soon sometime. :)

Congratulations on your thinking lately - it has lead you to ask good questions. Being a christian doesn't make you a better person, nor does being a nonchristian. All god's children have a responsibility to the rest of god's children (christian, muslim, jewish, buddist, or whatever) to be good or humane, even those that doubt or deny his existence. And, of course, the rapists among us belong in jail, christian or not.

Hey Emma
I just posted in another post how i said something i shouldn't have and my son called me on it by saying, "and i thought you were a Christian!" My reply to him was, "being a Christian does not mean i am perfect, it does mean i am forgiven." This is just something i thought you could use the next time the subject comes up...
And i too would have a hard time believing that a drug dealer and a rapist was a Christian...

blessings to you
Tia
