DO YOU ONLY HAVE HEAD KNOWLEDGE?

I recently had a conversation with someone who made the claim that they knew the Bible as well as anyone. They know what the Lord requires of us in our religious life because they had heard it from their parents who were very "religious."
This person also never goes to church or associates with a Christian fellowship of any kind. They are basing their relationship with God on their association with "religious parents." This reminds me of the old saying that "just because you live in a garage does not make you a car." Kind of guilt by association! Sorry, it does not work that way! To be a true Christian is not to be "religious" or to be the child of a Christian. You can know the Bible frontward and backward but still not be a Christian. All you will have is "head knowledge."
Don't you know that even the devil knows what the scriptures say? Does that make him a Christian? Of course not!
To be a Christian we must have a RELATIONSHIP" with God! Not religion! Relationship! We have to know Him as Lord and Savior and then His Word (the Bible) will become the living Word for us. Our minds will be opened by the Holy Spirit to understand what God the Father is saying to us. Head knowledge is good but it takes "Heart Knowledge" to discern the things of God!

Well even if the religous people read the bible it is still a good thing for them to do, because they are getting fed spiritually. did you know the bible is our food we need it just like normal food, you cannot survive without it everytime these religous people read the bible the Holy Spirit can quicken them a word. Better reading a bible than other books for example witchcraft or sex books or worse than that you think? Maybe in a way when they say they know it more than anybody maybe they have read it beginning to end and keep going over it and over it, they are only telling the truth is should not offend people. I do this I do a whole chapter a day and one at night and than I get through the whole bible and God quickens me his words and sometimes I even get stuff from God and I would say hey I just read about that in the bible lastnight. but I have known other people who flick the pages and do not even read it and some leave the bible on the top of the shelf where it gets dust on it and a person that has read the bible alot you can tell, by they know when something is not in there and when something is of what has been said. when they keep reading the bible with head knowledge God turns it into heart knowlege. I was going to a religous Pacific Island Church and they are not bornagain but God still touched me I was slain in the Spirit at the time did not know what it meant until I grew older and went to a Spirit fulled church than I realized why? I fainted. God had touched my life in this religous church. so please do not be so hard on religous people.and pray that they will find the truth Signed Deanna.

Thank you for your insightful words, Deanna. Of course you are right anyone who just reads the Bible opens themselves up to the Holy Spirit speaking to their heart and mind. This is a good thing but the point I was trying to make was the many people who claim Christianity but really do not know the basics of what the Gospel is all about. Some of these people will not bother to look further because they have been deceived in their own minds that they know enough. Bible knowledge is the most important knowledge we can have in this world but that knowledge must be embedded in our hearts and our souls not just in our minds. Fred
