A Prayer in The Midst of Sadness and Depression

O Lord, I am downcast and low in spirit. I sit in empty silence with eyes that see no hope. In the night hours You see my many tears. There is no strength within me. I am covered with clouds of sadness, dark and looming.

O Lord, I long to feel Your sweet presence. Come to me and be my Shield and Strength in this dark hour; and lift my head up high once again. Teach me to encourage myself in Who You are. For though this weeping endures for the night, You are The One Who brings Joy in the morning. You are The One Who will turn my mourning into dancing, and replaces this garment of depression with gladness. Restore to me the Joy of Your Salvation and uphold me with Your Holy Spirit.

In the midst of this sadness I will yet praise You with all my heart, for You are glorious. Who You are will never change and Your Love will never cease. Though all the world may fall around me, this one thing I know...I will never be silent. I will sing forth my praise to You and declare your wondrous works. I will give thanks to You forever! Use me, O Lord, for Your Glory.

In Jesus Name, Amen, let it be so.

O Lord, I am downcast and low in spirit ... .
My friend, take comfort to know that you are not alone. I worship, praise and glorify him alongside you today. You are loved by HIM and by us.

And though tonight we are in darkness, behold the sun will rise.

EVERY person of any significance in the Bible has gone through periods of introspection, feeling unworthy, sadness, anger, joy, peace etc. These are in and of themselves emotions that are part of being normal. We cannot expect to not feel the way mentioned here at times if we are indeed human. Unless a person is a robot or so hardened in heart and conscience that there remains no emotions whatsoever, there are going to be times when we feel like giving up, that there is no hope, that God has forsaken us, that there is no good left anywhere etc.

David certainly proved that for every day we feel high and mighty there are days we feel low and small. David was a man after God's own heart and thus when we read the Psalms we see a little bit of how God thinks.

I have always been amazed at places in the OT where it says that God was "grieved" when men turned their back on Him. An interesting study is to look in the Bible at all the emotional words used in reference to GOD. He is described as being angry, jealous, "hurt", lonely and many more. I am 100% sure Jesus endured all these things during His time on earth. Whether it is true or not, there is a strong case for saying that Jesus died of a broken heart.

The Lord will answer the prayer above in His due time and that my soul knows right well.

Hang in there brother.

Ben, You made me cry.. Please be comforted my dear brother in knowing that you are not alone. GOD is hurting too when He sees us hurting.. But He doesn't take away the pain at once.. For sometimes, pain and loneliness are what we need to earnestly seek Him and to learn treasures of wisdom that happiness doesn't always bring. I was insipred by Matt Maher's song "Hold us together" shared by k in her blog. I then googled other of matt's song and came across of this one. Here's the lyrics: (check it out in youtube too) My past won't stop haunting me In this prison there's a fight between Who I am and who I used to be This thorn in my side is a grace For because of it the flesh and blood of God Was offered in my place, my place You fought the fight in me You chased me down and finished the race I was blind but now I see Jesus You kept the faith in me Where did my best friends go? In my defense they disappeared Just like Your friends did to You, oh Lord But You were there, You gave me strength So this little one might come to know The glory of Your name, Your name You fought the fight in me You chased me down and finished the race I was blind but now I see Jesus You kept the faith in me Awaited, set apart like incense to Your heart A libation I'm pouring out Empty and beautiful, beautiful, beautiful You fought the fight in me You chased me down and finished the race I was blind but now I see Jesus You kept the faith in me You fought the fight in me You chased me down and finished the race I was blind but now I see Jesus You kept the faith in me Jesus You kept the faith in me Savior, You kept the faith in me The LORD is faithful. Rejoice in Him always. Blessings, abbie
