Remembering Our Heroes
This is going to be an out of the ordinary blog for me. I usually do a devotional blog, but today I thought since it was Memorial Day I'd talk about who we need to be remembering today.
Now I know Memorial Day is mostly about remembering our soldiers that have fought for our freedom. To that I do give them honor. I have had relatives who have fought in many wars. I wish I could say I did the same, but I haven't. Although I have fought in another type of war, spiritual. We all fight spiritual wars every day whether we realize it or not.
When I heard Scott on Air 1 reminding us to pray for our troops and those who have fought for our freedom, immediately I though of one person that gave me the most important freedom of all, Jesus. He fought a war for our lives and died for it. Yes, He also was raised from the dead, but my point is, He fought for our lives so we would not see hell. He fought for our freedom and our life to be eternally in heaven with Him and His Father, God. To that I am very grateful.
When I think of where I was when He called me, I was not deserving of the gift He was wanting to give me. If our roles were changed and I was in his shoes, I would have said, "This guy doesn't deserve eternal life with Me and my Father." Yet that is how gracious or Savior was. He looked past our ugliness and sin and saw great worth in us. He knew we could become useful to our Father in heaven. Sure maybe not 24/7/365, but we would be useful. We are worthy to be called children of God. Not because of anything we have done, but because of what God has done in our lives.
So I guess there are two heroes I want to remember today, Jesus my Savior and God my Father.
I do not want to take away from any of our troops right now that are fighting still today for our freedom to walk the streets in freedom of fear. For there service to our country and our freedom I thank them deeply. Yet, even they need our Savior for their freedom and deliverance from sin. So to all those who have ever fought for our freedom, Thank You.
