The Beast Will Defeat Us…Or Will He?

Revelation 13, I have been putting this one off for a while. I guess sometimes I feel I do not have all the insight I wish I had to interpret this book. I guess I’ll give it my best shot.

Revelation 13:1–4 (NCV)
The Two Beasts
1 Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, and there was a crown on each horn. A name against God was written on each head. 2 This beast looked like a leopard, with feet like a bear's feet and a mouth like a lion's mouth. And the dragon gave the beast all of his power and his throne and great authority. 3 One of the heads of the beast looked as if it had been killed by a wound, but this death wound was healed. Then the whole world was amazed and followed the beast. 4 People worshiped the dragon because he had given his power to the beast. And they also worshiped the beast, asking, "Who is like the beast? Who can make war against it?"

The key word here is beast!” These beast or leader will be against God. They will be followers of Satan. The world will not see that though, and they will just fallow them because of the great things they do because of the power given to them by the dragon. Then the world will worship the dragon, Satan. Scary to think this could ever happen huh? Yet as I look about me and see God being removed from everything in this world I wonder.

Revelation 13:5–8 (NCV)
5 The beast was allowed to say proud words and words against God, and it was allowed to use its power for forty-two months. 6 It used its mouth to speak against God, against God's name, against the place where God lives, and against all those who live in heaven. 7 It was given power to make war against God's holy people and to defeat them. It was given power over every tribe, people, language, and nation. 8 And all who live on earth will worship the beast—all the people since the beginning of the world whose names are not written in the Lamb's book of life. The Lamb is the One who was killed.

I do not like the sound of this. Where is the victory if we are defeated by the beast? He will think he has defeated us. If our bodies are destroyed, our souls will become immortal and we will be stronger than before.

It also says that all who live on the earth will worship the beast. All will worship the beast except us, whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. I do not plan on bowing down to any beast.

Revelation 13:9–10 (NCV)
9 Anyone who has ears should listen:
10 If you are to be a prisoner,
then you will be a prisoner.
If you are to be killed with the sword,
then you will be killed with the sword. This means that God's holy people must have patience and faith.

In the end, we could either be put in prison and tortured or we could be killed. So if we are in prison we should have patience and faith that God’s plan is perfect even in this. Also, if we are going to be killed we should have faith that we will be raised to be with our Father in heaven forever.

Revelation 13:11–18 (NCV)
11 Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon. 12 This beast stands before the first beast and uses the same power the first beast has. By this power it makes everyone living on earth worship the first beast, who had the death wound that was healed. 13 And the second beast does great miracles so that it even makes fire come down from heaven to earth while people are watching. 14 It fools those who live on earth by the miracles it has been given the power to do. It does these miracles to serve the first beast. The second beast orders people to make an idol to honor the first beast, the one that was wounded by the deadly sword but sprang to life again. 15 The second beast was given power to give life to the idol of the first one so that the idol could speak. And the second beast was given power to command all who will not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 The second beast also forced all people, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to have a mark on their right hand or on their forehead. 17 No one could buy or sell without this mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. 18 This takes wisdom. Let the one who has understanding find the meaning of the number, which is the number of a person. Its number is 666.

The people of the world will be fooled by these beasts. We need to know God’s Word and know what the truth is. If we do not know the truth, we will fall for the lies. Then we will be in the group of fools that believe in the beast. Then you might as well line up for your mark on your hand or forehead.

John says it takes wisdom to understand the meaning of the number 666. 666? Well, I know in the Bible that the number 7 is a sign of perfection, so maybe 6 is close to 7, but NOT! You see, people will think that these beast are from God. They will think that if they join up with them by worshiping them and getting the sign on their hand or forehead they will be victorious. It may seem that way, but we all know in the end these people will not be victorious just as the beast they follow will not be victorious.

Prayer: Father God, prepare us for this day Lord that we will have to face. Grant us the patience and faith that we will need to withstand this evil time in the world. We know all this must come about to bring about your will and your victory over evil. We trust You, because you are our Father who cares for His children and knows what will be best for them. Give us eyes to see and wisdom to understand when this all happens. Help us to be strong in out faith and not to fall for the beasts lies. Even in death we know we will have victory with You Father. Your Son had victory in death and we will too. I thank You Father for Your good and perfect will for Your children. Amen.
