A conversation with myself

For a long time I have thought that self talk was not very helpful, as I imagine many of us do. I continued to do it. The other day I was driving down the road discussing something with myself when I realized what I was doing. That is the way it usually goes and I became a little frustrated with myself, as usual.

All of a sudden it dawned on me that I could use that same energy to speak with my heavenly Father. I could talk about the same things, or not. But I realized that he would be pleased if I spent more time talking with him. And it would be much better for me.

So I put this simple plan into action. Whenever I begin talking to myself, I include my Father in the conversation. Now I cannot claim to have done this for a long time but in the short time I have done it I have noticed that it seems easy to remember to do, and is very beneficial to me.

I was telling my son about this, and he replied that when we have conversations with ourselves, we usually come out looking pretty good. When I place God in the conversation it becomes more objective and my side doesn’t get a free pass. I’m sure that all that I hear from my Father may not be absolutely inspired, but I am sure it’s closer than it would be otherwise.

I also need to add that I am always with God, or he is always with me. He is always in the conversation as a listener. He hears every word I say and sees all my thoughts. This new discipline is for me that I might become more like my savior. Romans 8:29

It always comes back to something like this. Brother Lawrence called it Practicing the presence of Jesus.” Andrew Murray called it Abiding in Christ.” Others have called it living a conscious Life.” No matter what we call it I need to grow here.
Let us all learn more faithfulness.
