Feelings are deceptive, but can help us to form good habits.
About a month ago I went through the same thing & a certain daily devotional came to mind-I picked it up & it had exactly what I was needing. It helped me to "get" up and "walk" out of the mood. I've often read that God calls us to "Arise and eat..." and we must do this (step out in faith) to receive His touch/word/healing. He doesn't always pick us up, but He is always there for us when we "get up".
Do you have a song, a book or a verse that has been floating through your mind, if so, go read it. Often the Lord is speaking in such simple ways as that and so many people miss it. I often find a verse/character/story will float through my mind and when I go to the word, I always find what I'm needing as I read. ( I could provide several personal recent (as in just this week!) experiences on this one, but I want to encourage you.)
God uses sometimes what seems as the simplest things to confirm His love and affection for us, but we often are looking for so much more then His soft voice. You are not alone. Let His word minister to you and then...get up and eat! Meaning partake of His blessings, whether that is looking to nature, receiving from His word, listening to godly music that ministers to your soul, reaching out to loved ones God has placed in your life or just simply eating the food He has provided for your table. His Word and His blessings always abound, we just have to remind one another how to "walk" into them and receive them.
I've learned that God can use our moodiness to call us closer into a deeper relationship with Him. Are you "chewing" on something, some question, some issue? If so, I encourage you to bring it to the Lord. He wants to hear from you. Even if it seems too small. Bring it to Him.
One other idea that I've used as I struggle with "moods," is that I purposefully start to praise Him. No matter how or what we feel, He is so worthy of our praise. Just singing "How Great is our God," or "Our God is an Awesome God" often gets my sight off of me and how I feel and puts Him into my sight. When your eyes are inline with Him I often find I hear His voice and feel his love for me more then at any other time. "Turn your eyes upon Jesus... " I hope this helps!
As for your desire to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit I've read lately that if you feel that you aren't hearing from the Lord sometimes it is best to go back to the last time you felt Him speak to you or guide you and make sure that you followed His guiding. Pray and ask the Lord to bring to your mind any area that you may not have followed His guiding. I'm not speaking of just any random idea but one that you prayed about, sensed His guiding and had confirmation that you should walk in this way and yet you did not for some reason. Often, going back, asking for forgiveness and grace lifts the "moody" feelings and we sense His Holy Spirit again.

In some ways it takes a lifetime to learn to walk with the Lord and to hear His voice. But, in other ways it only takes an open heart and the willingness to receive. Ultimately whether the Lord speaks to us through His written Word, through others or directly to us; it becomes something that over time is as natural as breathing.
I have been trying to master this now for nearly 40 years and there are days when it is so easy to walk in fellowship with God that it takes little more than prayer and some time in His Word to do it. There are other days when the whole thing is a major challenge and unfortunately those are the days that don't go well. Thank God for I John 1 and the promise that God forgives our broken fellowship when we confess it.
As one who has tried just about every thing in the books, I can say that for the most part, hearing from God is far less complicated than we make it many times, but then again we are humans.
Praying you receive what you need when you need it!

I resonate with the previous 2 comments. Just want what has sort of worked for me...
Before I open my Bible, I tell God, "Please Lord, please speak to me...LOUDLY. But don't scold me, coz I will be too discouraged! But you know I want to obey you. Speak Lord, and give me a willing heart, enlarge it and I shall not walk, but run in the way of Your commandment."
Unless He gives me His willingness to obey and listen, He knows I'll be doing my thing...trying to "glorify Him".
Then I open up to Psalms/Proverbs..maybe Psalm 10, or Proverbs 10, since today is
As I prayfully read, there's normally ONE verse that leaps off the page like a delicious fruit.
That's the one I "Chew" on the whole day. Of course He also corrects me with His Word, but His corrections
are not harsh, more like ... gentle warning, a tap on the wrist by a loving Mummy.
Another way is by absence of PEACE & JOY. Normally we feel quite peaceful, placid, even happy...
When there's a clear absence of peace & joy, God witholding me from something dangerous

Thank you to you all who have left comments. They have been really uplifting and have reminded me to start looking at the smaller things in which God may be speaking to me. I forget that sometimes. I needed the reminder. Thanks again!
