Priorities and Responsibilities of a Site Owner

I had originally placed this in here the discussion section on CB, but was hoping that by placing it as a blog it would get more feedback for the CB ADMIN to reflect on.

Priorities and Responsibilities of a Site Owner

Just a quick point or two as to what I perceive the roles and responsibilities of the Site Owner should be.
Disclaimer: The thoughts and perceptions noted here are NOT necessarily those of the actual Site Owner

1. Act within the legal statutes for the given state/country in which the site originates.
2. Provide a service that is consistent with the Term of Service for its paying customers.
3. Maintain a working site.
4. Provide a window of input, when applicable, for input by the community on upcoming Service changes.
5. Act with financial responsibility when additional funding is requested above and beyond typical Service fees.
6. Hold true to any pre-registration agreements it requires of new members. In the case of this site, the faith disclaimer.
7. On occasion, be personally accessible to member of the site they have created.

Note to Commenter:
I would encourage others to let John know what they "think" his priorities and responsibilities should be. Keep in mind that our perceptions are not always correct, but I believe that the honest feedback would be welcomed by this site's owner. (or at least I hope it will.)

Note to the Owner:
Keep an open mind and a soft heart as end-users share some personal thoughts on what they "think" Site Owners priorities and responsibilities "should" be.

This can be a great opportunity for learning by both parties.

Blessings,
GreyBear

I think you pretty well nailed the main points here Greybear. I do think it would be advantageous for there to be a way to communicate with the site owner personally and confidentially in a chat type of setting. There are simply some things which come up that are not public and not easily discussed via PMs.

I also think the site owner should have a special place for specific prayer requests for the site and specific physical or financial needs. The recent addition of the new server was a great example of this.

Since most of us have absolutely no idea what is involved with being a site owner, both from the technical as well as legal sides, any information shared will help us pray in a more concise way and offer assistance when needed or desired. In other words, "A day in the life of a site owner" would help us to grasp what it takes to make a site such as this available and as great as it is.

Interesting blog and thanks for bringing this up.

I would think for this site, variety and open-mindedness, where newcomers can come and get a glimpse a new right way to see things. I think the anti-bash policy is very successful. It keep me in line that others need courtesy and respect. I may not always agree with everyone. And some things are plainly wrong. But I don't think anyone here should be here to be impressive but

to fore-bear with the weakness of others. Some may come from a completely mistaken up-bringing in the some gospel and we love to keep the truth. But a kind patient ear is more effective in turning someone to the right path that all the 'thou shalls' I can think of. I think that is the secret of the success of this site. This site makes room for those who never been to place like this...

Interesting and timely blog, Papa Bear. I agree with your points and those added in the comments.

John does an amazing job, often a thankless you in keeping this site running so smoothly and focused on its mission. Kudos, mi amigo.

We must also recognize the responsibilities and roles of the members here. They certainly include following the rules of the site, including the legal ones, and supporting this site financially as we are able.

And we have significant responsibilities to one another... to be supportive, informative and respectful. For those who are active here this is simply following the Great Commission and the commandment that we love one another.

Shalom,

Art

Interesting blog GB and one that needed written.

B2Y "A day in the life of a site owner" - this sounds like it could be a blog in its self and a lengthy one at that! But it certainly would be interesting to be behind the scenes.

yuppers THBTG we all need to "do unto others as we would have them do unto us"

Art you beat me to the " member responsibility" thing. I fully agree - If we as members fulfill our responsibilities to this site - it will leave John and the behind the scenes people to do what they need to be doing.

John - I really don't think any or at least not many of us can even fathom what it takes to keep this site going -even on a daily basis -let alone monthly or yearly!

Like I said -Interesting and thought provoking Blog.
