It is entirely understandable for someone to crave stability in their life, but if one is not careful, that stability will turn into a mundane existence. A life devoid of all ups, downs and curves is a life in need of life support for it has "flat lined".
It has been said that it is the stones in the brook that make it sing. If one is looking for a boring river, there are many of them around. The Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and Arkansas Rivers are, except during floods or near their origin, big lumbering bodies of water that for the most part are quiet basically good at doing their job which is to transport excess water to the ocean.
A few years ago I was camped out next to a small stream in rural Virginia. I imagine the locals had a name for this stream and perhaps in due time it became a big river, but at my campsite it was but a small stream. Due to the terrain, there were numerous rocks in the stream bed and the resulting noise of the water going around and over those rocks made that stream to become a beautiful choir singing the Hallelujah Chorus.
I remember sitting by the side of that stream for a very long time cherishing the intimacy I had at the time with my God. Something about the sound of water rushing along its way is incredibly soothing and conducive to peace and comfort.
At times in our journey, we are going to find huge boulders squarely blocking our way. At times in this life, we must flow around those boulders or wait awhile for more water so we finally flow over the rocks.
Another thing to remember about those boulders in our way is that they may in fact be there to provide a way for someone to get across the stream. At times the very things which to us are a burden or hassle in life end up being something beneficial and a blessing to someone else.
In my lifetime, I have spent countless hours sitting or standing on the banks of various streams, creeks, rivers and lakes. There is so very much we can learn from water and so many things God can teach us using water as His textbook.
I highly encourage you to spend some time with the nearest body of water you have available to you. Even calm and tranquil water provides the means to learn one of lifes greatest lessons. In our crazy tumultuous world, a quiet little pond provides the soothing balm needed at times to remain sane in the midst of insanity and at peace when surrounded by confusion and turmoil.
I hear the nearby creek, river or pond is accepting reservations for some quiet "alone time". I urge you to get your ticket now for what will be one of the truly special experiences in your life as God uses that water to meet your needs.
