TO BE... ...OR NOT

The mortality rate in this world is 100%. None of us will get out alive except through His promises, His grace.

The does not, however, keep us from being who we are at times... doubters.

I wrote the following sometime ago when I was a young man of sixty two;

See that old man,
with crooked fingers,
sparse and silvered hair?

There is knowing in those rheumy eyes,
much more than one would realize,

He has looked at death and back again,
To dear things... not wishing for his companionship.

Giving only a slight smile,
and a deliberate turn away,
returning to life the way it is,

Flawed, but still of great comfort.

Death looked away as well,
knowing he would once find him ready,

But never today.

One might well consider this a weakness in faith... but it is simply a fear of the unknown; coupled with perhaps the desire to finsh our job here. For some of us, we would respond to the question posed by the Lord, "How many did you bring with you?" and our fear would be that the answer may be "Too few Lord, too few."

Jesus said, "Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. That is the challenge that does not speak to that particular quandry at all.

We who have followed the Lord from cradle to cross know of His infinate humanity, His sacrifice. We probably have examined at length the minefields of discussion of "what did He know and when did he know it?" in order to understand God's plan and Jesus' purpose. A needful exercise.
Among all of this mystery comes the wretching cry upon the mount; "If it be Thy will, take this cup from me" It was, and is , the cry of our humanity, each in his own reason, as well.

Now, at age eighty, my response would be different. It would not be "never today". It would be " O.K., give me a minute to say goodby". This I know would not be in the Lords' pleasure considering his response to those would would bury or say goodby before following Him.

I'm not there yet... but I am getting closer. Please give me a second.

Milt,

A masterpiece once again! You have stated the reality of our walk. I am humbled and encouraged by your honesty. I am also blessed to have had the opportunity to peer into the mind of a canvas that is beautifully prepared by our Lord. Awesome!!

It's hard to reply to such glowing remarks. I might even take credit, but as you know full well, the testimony of your own work speaks to how little we are the authors... .only the instruments. milt

I am in full agreement with Evelyn! A blessing indeed. God has granted you wisdom than many could glean a valued treasure..if they would just take heed and notice.

Many continued blessings as you continue your path as an obedient servant. Anita
