Pilgrims and Economic Freedom
Pilgrims and Economic Freedom

A caller to Rush Limbaugh's show on Friday alerted him that on Sunday,
the Los Angeles Times "Kids Reading Room" section would explain how the Pilgrims
discovered that holding all their goods in common led to poverty, but economic
freedom -- allowing each to keep their own crops -- led to prosperity.
"The first seed had been planted for the American Revolution. People were free
to practice their religions as they saw fit and were free to keep the fruits of their
labor. This had never happened before in the history of mankind. In the words
of William Bradford, 'As one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here
kindled hath shone unto many, yea in some sort to our whole nation.' "
Tried and failed attempts often result in success over time. I think many today would agree that economic ventures tried have indeed failed and miserably so. But as a nation we will eventually figure it out. Yes it may take poverty and it may take us returning to some successful measures we have seen grow the country in the past, but we will get there. What worries me is how long will the searching go on and what will be the cost of upcoming failures. At times our Pilgrim ancestors lost nearly everything and everyone before they finally saw the solutions. What will be our cost to pay?
It is never promised that the road to eternity will be paved with gold. As a matter of a fact, I'm not sure paving is even promised at all. As we trudge through the next years of uncertainty and solution seeking, let us keep our eyes on who has all the answers. God laid the plans before he set the planets in their place and counted out the stars. Pray for those in power, our decision makers, that their eyes will be open and that they will follow God leading. Pray even harder for those who refuse to acknowledge him and that he is the solution that needs to be sought. Are you seeking the intervention of the Solution? Are you seeking the Lord today for ALL things?
