I remember my first year of jr high school/middle school. One of my first as they use to call them elective classes.( you had a choice to pick along with shop classes) was home economics .(a fancy way of saying cooking class.) It would open up a whole new world for me..disclaimer, I just had to catch myself, I was singing in my head that Disney song A Whole new World .. I digress.
I would learn a long lost skill these days of measuring ingredients(I know Emeril went Bam and The old Cajun guy with the red suspender back in the day used the middle of his hand.. Quote, They knew what to do.. There was the proper use of a oven timer, and how to properly set a table along with washing dishes and cleaning up a kitchen. Ive gotten into a habit of when I bake or cook, I clean as I go along cause a big pile of dishes in the sink makes me golet me use the dishwasher...
As time went on, I would be inspired by a older sister who did most of the baking in our house growing up. My first attempt would be cornbread and muffins.Just adding some chocolate frosting to the cornbread and color the muffins. (DISCLAIMER, You be surprised how well this went considering when people are hungry) The last 6 years, Ive been baking cakes as a hobby to relax from work and being a truck driver years ago.
Its just a talent that God gave me to bless others. So dont call me The Cake Boss , Ace of Cakes, Sara Lee or Betty Crocker .. I dont know all the words to the nursery rhymes Patty Cake or the one about 4 and 20 blackbirds baked in a pie.. lol
I just baked a coconut/pecan yellow cake this week along with a chocolate one and a french vanilla with chocolate icing is planned for tonight.and 3 more before the end of next month. I use my talent to, start conversations that lead to building bridges, then to relationships and friendships. Then people are more open to listen to the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
May all those who read this be greatly encouraged and blessed.
