Growing in Christ

I am a wife and mother of three who is striving on a daily basis to live a life that Jesus can be proud of. Lately I have been thinking a lot about the kind of person I really am. I am a stay at home mom and and have just started homeschooling my children. But what I really started wondering was, how would my kids and husband remember me if I passed away. Would I have made a difference for Christ on this earth. Unfortunately for me I do not feel that I would have. I love Jesus and I love my husband and children. But I don't think that I have looked upon the work of raising them as a joy. I do not enjoy my housework or cooking. All that to say that I believe that before I loose anymore years struggling through the work and not seeing what life should really be about I would like to stop and find the joy of homemaking.
Jesus says, "Do all things without Grumbling and Complaining." How many times have I forgotten that verse. I believe that God has called me to do something on this earth, and that is raise my children to love Him and serve my Husband. I have a wonderful example of how I belive God designed a woman to be in marriage and that is my Grandmother. She humbly serves my Grandfather, not because she has to but because she wants to. She is his help-mate. His strength.
I pray that Jesus will give me a heart of joy for the work He has placed before me. That he would help me see that even cleaning dishes and wiping noises can be an act of worship to the Lord if done with a joyful heart of worship to our Father.

Finding the strength to submit to your husband is a hurdle that is difficult for many to overcome. My own wife and I have a marriage based on the Biblical example where she serves me, and as the head of the house, I am responsible for her soul before the Lord. It is a hard lesson to learn to serve without grumbling, and I think the book of Jonah helped me learn a lot about bending my will to a greater good. Maybe it would help you in the same way it helped me to learn to submit to God in all things.

janellw,

Just writing about your struggle shows that you are striving to be obedient to the Lord. We should all look to serve others. Jesus' examples are numerous. Washing the feet of His disciples - imagine that! God on His hands and knees washing the feet of men (including His betrayer!). Ultimately His surrender on the cross was the ultimate service.

Don't ever give up trying. The Lord knows what your needs are. Let Him help you. Let Him show you the way.

Grace to you,
