Are You Growing Seedlings or Weedlings?

I went into the garden this morning
With tools in my hand for the task
Of clearing the weeds from the carrots
A job that was quite a big ask
I'd been waiting to get the right weather
Not hot and not cold but just right
And while I was busy just waiting
The weeds seemed to grow overnight

As I bent to the task in my garden
My spiritual ear heard a voice
"Are you growing both seedlings and weedlings
Because you know there is always a choice?"
As I carried on weeding the garden
With my ear finely tuned to my Lord
God reminded me of his great manual
Where his plans for my whole life are stored

It distinguishes weedlings from seedlings
And shows me a much better way
Of resisting the weedlings and growing the seedlings
So they're strong at the end of the day
God reminded me seedlings need water
And food so the veggies can grow
By neglecting to dig out the weedlings
The seedlings have hardly a show

Some weedlings they seem very pretty
But the end result's always the same
They take over and kill all the veggies
And there's just no-one else I can blame
I need in my life as a gardener
To be diligent and to be wise
So that when I have worked in my garden
The results that I eat are my prize

The moral of this little story
My friends really is plain to see
If I choose to ignore all those weedlings
They quite easily grow to be trees
To chop down a tree and destroy it
Is harder and takes much more time
Than letting God into my garden
To clear out those weedlings of mine
