Got Holy Spirit?

Is it possible to be a Christian without the Holy Spirit? Silly question, isn't it? Of course you can't!
The bible says,
Romans 8:9 (KJV)
9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

John 3:3-10(KJV)
3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

So why was the Holy Spirit given?
To give us power to be Christ's witnesses - Acts 1:8
To be with us forever - John 14:16
To be our Helper and our Teacher - John 14:26
To baptize us into one body in Christ - I Cor 12:13
To distribute spiritual gifts -I Cor 12:1-11
To seal us - Ephesians 4:30
To bear witness with our spirits that we are God's children - Romans 8:15,16
To continue filling us - Ephesians 4:18

These are just some of the ministries of the Holy Spirit to the believer. I am sure you can list more but the point is that we can not live overcoming lives as Christians without our becoming intimately familiar with the Holy Spirit. We became spiritually alive when we got born again and we are totally powerless without Him. We need to be surrender to Him daily and in constant communication with Him. Only the Holy Spirit can teach us how to live and walk in the Spirit. It is appalling how little is being taught about the spirit-filled life in the churches today. Some have put the Holy Spirit in a closet as if He were a secret. Some are ashamed of Him and afraid that if He really got loose everything would go haywire. Things are going haywire alright but it is because He is being ignored. It is only when we walk in the Spirit that we avoid fulfilling the lust of our sinful flesh.

So if you are wondering why so many believers live such unspiritual lives, well my guess would be that they are perishing for a lack of knowledge of the who the Holy Spirit and what He can do to make their lives full of His fruit. It's all there in the word for anyone that wants to know and all one has to do is ask Him and He will reveal Himself. This is the only way we can be over-comers in this life. It is not only frustrating but totally impossible otherwise.

Luke 11:13 (KJV)
13If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

In a reply to a comment I made on another site, the person remarked that one of protestant views could not spiritually understand scripture. I really feel sorry for people such as that. If someone can clearly show a teaching in the scripture, and yet one of another faith group will not acknowledge, even to the point of writing that they can not really interpret scripture anyhow, it may make them guilty of something strictly warned against, blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit of God leads one to follow Jesus Christ. To glorify Jesus Christ in all areas of life. Any attempt tp put something or someone in front of Jesus Christ is not of His Spirit. Jesus Christ told us what the Holy Spirit would do, when He came, in Johns gospel, the night of His betrayal.

Carnal christendom has so grieved the Holy Spirit, and trampled upon the blood Christ shed, that we are seeing the results. Much like our nation taking the recognition of God, and His Son, Jesus Christ, away from any public area. We are seeing those results too. The Holy Spirit does His work, just as Jesus Christ does His. Thanks you for this important message. God Bless.

Thank you brother for reading and responding. Your comments are so right on! Why would anyone resist the drawing and leading of the Holy Spirit? Why have so many hardened their hearts to the Spirit of Truth in unbelief? Why in the world would anyone who has the Spirit living in them not want to get to know Him and listen to Him?

I agree with your following statement:
"Carnal christendom has so grieved the Holy Spirit, and trampled upon the blood Christ shed, that we are seeing the results. Much like our nation taking the recognition of God, and His Son, Jesus Christ, away from any public area. We are seeing those results too.

In my opinion, this is why many in Christendom are becoming so dull of hearing. They are listening to the voice of the culture instead of the voice of the Spirit. We also know there are some pretenders in the mix, who have no spiritual hearing because they are still spiritually dead. The Holy Spirit knows the sheep from the goats. My prayer is that all who belong to the Lord would desire to sharpen their spiritual hearing. The hour is later than we think. There is a spiritual battle raging with many perishing but how can we prepare an offense or defense when we can not even hear His directives? God's word says His people perish from a lack of knowledge.

I am preparing a blog about spiritual hearing. We are one body and are responsible for one another. I hope you will check it out and add your comments.

God bless and keep you,

It saddens my heart to realize how little many Christians know and understand about the Holy Spirit. The points made in your blog are presented well. I did not understand much at all about the Holy Spirit until after I repented and surrendered my self and my life to God and made the commitment to follow and serve Jesus Christ for the rest of my life. It was during this experience of being born again that I literally felt the Holy Spirit come down upon me and enter my body. He indwelled me. Five months later, the Holy Spirit nudged me to pray to speak in tongues. I was baptized with the Holy Spirit at that time. A large number of Christians know little about the Baptism with the Holy Spirit, or are afraid of it, or deny that this is what is being referred to where the Bible tells us Jesus will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. Its purpose is to give a person more of God's power to witness to others and it most certainly helps to bring you to greater levels of intimacy with Jesus Christ. I serve a God who wants to be very personal and truly desires to communicate with His children.

Thank you for this blog!

Just reading your comments caused me to feel the warm flow of His presence? Glory to God for His word that tell us that out of our innermost being will flow rivers of living water. My testimony is very similar to yours. Unfortunately, many Christians are walking around powerless and victimized by the devil because they don't know any different. They think getting "beat down" is all they can expect. Jesus gave His life so that we could be victors not victims. If only the whole church would teach the truth about the Holy Spirit. His ministry to the body has absolutely nothing to do with denominationalism and the dispensation of His being poured out is still ongoing in our day. We are not divided in Him. We are one body in Christ who is the only Head. The same Spirit that baptizes us into the body of Christ at conversion wants us also to be immersed(baptized) in His power. One thing is for sure, each believer is going to stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ one day and give account. We each will have no excuse for not having fulfilled our calling and mission because not only did we have the word of God's revelation, we also had all the power we needed readily available for us, living right inside us. All we have to do is ask and surrender. He is no respecter of persons or denominations.
God bless you and thank you so much for sharing the truth.

Sister Kogfamily, many Christians do not accept the Holy Spirit as God ,sadly. Yet without him, we are nothing. He is the One who will counsels us, leads us to the truth and will teach us what to do and how to do in all matters of our lives including our walk with the Lord.

May we love Him more and more and may we receive Him fully into our lives. Yes, I need Him tremendously!

Thanks for sharing

Blessings always

Thank you for your comments. It is sadly true that some Christians are walking in spiritual ignorance. They get most(or all) of their knowledge about God second hand from others who they have placed their confidence and trust in. They don't realize that they can commune directly with the Holy Spirit and also learn directly from Him. He is God. He has feelings and a will and He was sent by Jesus and the Father to live in us. Part of His job is teacher of all things biblical. He will bring divine revelation of the things we need to understand. So until believers develop a relationship with Him, their understanding about the things of God will remain immature and under the control of others. Yes, God has also gifted teachers in the body of Christ to help to mature and edify the members but the goal of a teacher is to duplicate themselves so that the truth can go further than just their reach. It is very challenging for a teacher not to enjoy the esteem and dependency that others can place on them as a distributor of truth but this is a dangerous ego trap. We are called to make disciples for Christ not for ourselves. Each of us, regardless of the degree of our anointing must never forget that the Holy Spirit is the giver of all spiritual gifts and the source of all power. We are to be no more than arrows pointing directly to Christ. God alone deserves all glory and praise.

God bless you,

  Remso,

God bless you for your blog. I really appreciate that you have such a solid recall of the Word.
You asked, "Here we have people baptized into Jesus Christ, but not the Holy Spirit. What state are they in? Hell bound? Somehow I do not think so. "
I don't think so either. The only requirement for salvation is to believe in the heart and confess Christ with the mouth.
Romans 10:9,10 "9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. "
And it says in Romans 8:9 says "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his."
Verse 16 says "16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: "

But it doesn't stop there. A person can be saved and still be totally clueless about things of the Spirit of God. This ignorance can be because of many things, sometime it may due to natural reasons like mental impairment/incapacity but most of the time it is because they do not know what the bible teaches.

You made note of Jesus' words in Acts 1:8 "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
Remember the disciples believed (were saved) when they saw Christ resurrected before His ascension. John 20:22 says "And with that he breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit." So they had already received the Holy Spirit well before the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit fell in power on all in the upper room, filling them all up. It was after they received this powerful filling that they received the boldness to fulfill His calling. Jesus knew they need something more to fulfill the Great Commission. They needed to be filled with His power.

Here's my point, we all know believers that are truly saved but have very little or no power to live victorious lives. They are only able to grasp the very elemental truths of the Word. They are continually repenting because of being defeated by sin in their lives. They are targets of attacks by the devil because they don't know how to fight him. They are spiritually immature and don't know what their spiritual gifts are or how to minister them with power. Yet, even though they are babes, ruled by their emotions, they are still saved. They are members of the body of Christ who need a lot of attention and help but they are still our dear sisters and brothers just the same.
They have the Holy Spirit living in them but have never been filled with the Holy Spirit. This filling is what I understand as the baptism with/in the Holy Spirit. This baptism is done by Jesus. John the Baptist said Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Yes, yes, yes, at salvation the Holy Spirit comes to live in every believer and baptizes them into the body of Christ but they should also seek another spiritual baptism which is done by Jesus when they can be immersed, filled with the Holy Spirit. This baptism is essential for a believer to walk in the full power that Christ died to make available. This basptism is available to any believer who asks and fully surrenders to Him and should be recurring. We are to continue being filled. Note how many times the word says a believer "being filled with the Holy Spirit" did some act or spoke powerfully for the kingdom of God. Sometimes based on God's omniscience this initial filling can happen at the same time as salvation/receiving the Holy Spirit to indwell. However, I don't think that filling at initial salvation is the norm. If it does not happen then, it is still available for any believer who is really serious about serving Christ and realizes how impotent/incapable they are to serve him effectively without His power at work in and controlling them.

My hope is that all the body of Christ walk in the fullness of the power of the Holy Spirit so that we can do the will of God in these last days. There is no "hocus pocus" about this. All a person needs to do is fully surrender to Christ and ask for filling/baptism with the Holy Spirit but it is only possible if one's heart is softened by faith. He will not force His control on anyone in unbelief. It requires us to die to ourselves and yield to Him for Him to be able to live through us. Otherwise, a believer will continue in a state of spiritual immaturity even though they may be saved for decades. Churches all over have people like this filling their pews but each person is accountable for themselves and each of us one day will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ.
