Is being anti-abortion being judgmental?

A Christian recently said something that implied that being anti-abortion or pro-life was being judgmental. I know several Christian’s that love Jesus but are pro-abortion.

I do prefer to use the words anti-abortion and pro-abortion rather than pro-life or pro-choice. Pro-choice implies that if you don’t agree you are against choice. The same is true of the word pro-life which it implies that the other view is anti-life. I will use the term pro-abortion and anti-abortion here as I believe it best. I am anti-abortion. I believe that scripture tells us that a soul is given each human. All human life begins with God and is created by God.

Life is given by God, a soul given by God.

So let us look at scripture and what God has to say about life. In Psalm 78:6; God says the children yet to be born. How are they born? Our God chooses to create a child. He uses a woman’s body to do so, with help from a man. The two together make a human life, but it is God’s choosing that places that child in the womb and God that places a soul there.

Psalm 78:6
So the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born and they in turn would tell their children.

In John 1:12-13 God also makes it clear that He chooses to create a child. That child is not conceived because of the will of man or desires of a husband.

John 1:12-13
12, Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God- 13 children born not of natural descent, nor human decision, or a husband’s will, but born of God.

These are some of the scripture that says God is anti-abortion. There are many more.

Making a judgment is not the same as passing judgment.

Romans 12:9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

To cling to what is good we must make a judgment as to what is good. That is not being judgmental. That is not passing judgment on someone else.

I know many women that have been through abortion. I do not judge them. Some are very close personal friends. This is how we love, unconditionally. We love the person, not what they did.

A dear special sister in Christ was one of the first in this county to have an abortion. She was forced into it by a family that would not help her as a single Mom. I love her dearly. I have never judged her and never will.

There are groups now that help women that find themselves in the same situation. That is what part of the right-to-live movement is all about, helping women in need during this troubled time in their life. Yes they also fight to remove the evil of abortion which is a thing of man, not of God.

When I vote against a pro-abortion candidate, I am not judging any person. I am making the statement of my faith, that God is the creator of all life.

When I donate money to the right-to-life groups, I am not judging anyone. I am making a statement of my faith that God is the creator of all life.

I have yet to have a pro-abortion Christian explain to me with scripture why they believe God would be a part of such evil.

I also find it interesting that the party that was pro-slavery is also the party that is pro-abortion. The party that was anti-slavery is anti-abortion.

Dear sister kraftykatz, thank you for this most forthright and clear stand on an issue very close to my heart. Scripture is clear with regards to the sanctity of life and there are no Scriptural basis to support abortion. This does not mean that we should not try to understand the circumstances that some women find themselves in. The really sad statement being made is the belief that there are no other solutions to an unwanted pregnancy besides the termination of a life. The reality is that there are alternate solutions. In my mind, there is only one plausible excuse for abortion and that is when a choice has to be made between the life of the child and that of the mother for medical reasons. I also volunteer with a Christian organization that work with women faced with an unwanted pregnancy. Because I am a man, I do not work with the women directly, instead, I help by raising funds, repairing or assembling old and new cribs, and with other men help prepare homes for the arrival of a new child. This organization help by providing counseling; arranging adoption of unwanted babies; providing financial, moral, and spiritual support to mothers faced with economic and financial difficulties; and arranging for and providing help for child care. The woman that directs this organization often say, "Don't abort your children, if you do not want them, leave them in our hands. We will find loving homes for them and if we have to, we will care for them and raise them ourselves."

I too refuse to judge but I also go one step further, I also refuse to be yoked with public demonstrations and protests on the issue. This is not because I agree with abortion. It is because, I have witnessed too much hateful and unchristian behavior at these events and I do not wish my witness to be impacted by these. I do not wish to loose my effectiveness in witnessing Christ on this issue by being perceived as judgmental and hateful.

In His Love,
Arisen

I do understand the circumstances. Many times it comes down to someone being involved in behavior they are ashamed of and don't want the world to know. But God always knows what the world doesn't see. I was an unwed single mother. I do understand being in that situation. I did one protest in front of the abortion clinic many years ago. I also did one year a life chain in support of life. Our chain went for miles. Someone approached one couple and said maybe you should adopt unwanted kids rather than try to stop abortion. He spoke to the wrong couple. This couple had adopted 6 kids. I don't do any kind of public protest now, only prayer support.
Thanks for the positive support.

No, it is not being judgmental if one says they do not believe something is right. If someone says they believe that it is wrong for someone to walk into a store, pull out a gun and start shooting are they being judgmental? Few people would say they were... except for someone who wanted to it themselves.

Abortion always strikes a cord with me, not because I ever had one but because a doctor tried to force me to have one. I was very ill when I was expecting my son. So ill that I tore my esophagus and was hospitalized when I was nine weeks pregnant. Ultrasounds are usually not done that early in a pregnancy unless there are suspected problems. I had an ultrasound and I will never forget it for he was tiny, so very tiny. His heart was not enclosed yet and you could see it flutter as it beat. Amazing!

Anyway, I continued to be ill for the duration of my pregnancy. I remember the doctor I had abruptly announcing that I needed to have an abortion. When I refused, he became very angry. I was rather shocked at his manner and I remember backing away from him, protecting my little baby with my arms. I did not want him to come near me. He then told me that there was no way I'd have a healthy baby. I walked out and immediately got a different doctor.

Ironically though, that doctor was the one who ended up delivering my son. Sigh... I didn't have much choice in that matter, LOL! They switched doctors on me after I was at the hospital. However, when it was all over, I had the satisfaction of having him snap at me, "I was wrong... this time."

The "baby" is now 27 years old, 6'1", graduated from college and is married now.

My feelings are like Arisen's in regards to protests and demonstrations though. When I was going for cancer treatments, I had to walk through a picket line one time. They were protesting abortions but I wasn't going there for that. I was going to the hospital for treatment. To tell you the truth, it made me angry to see people who were ill having to get through a picket line.

While I am not saying we should not vote on laws designed to outlaw things we do not believe are good, it goes so much deeper than that. People are not changed through legislation. They are changed through Christ. If hearts and lives were changed... what a difference there would be!

Blessings!

K:princess: I have heard many women tell me stories very much to yours. One couple was even told their child would be deformed. If it was deformed in the womb, God gave it a healing because she was born healthy. Doctor's like your are what is the most scary about this entire health care debate. If they can force us to buy insurance, they can force us to do what the doctor says and not want we believe we should.

Like most others here, I am against abortion, but I participate in no protests and such. That our society is so pleasure driven, self-oriented, is the saddest. Now we are witnessing often how some will abuse their children, even kill them. Also, what I find so ironic, is that many of these who strongly support abortion, are very strong lovers of animals, and are infuriated when an animal is abused. As a society we spend millions rescueing a whale, and do little to save the life of one of those little ones, who want to live as well. Our nation is a witness against itself, and God is not blind, nor deaf.

Being an election year, we will hear all about the problems, and solutions being offered. "God" will be named, mostly for a political objective. The things we do and say, our actions, show in clear clarity how we really feel, and God knows. He will hear, and bless, when we return to Him. It is that simple. "Changed through Christ". I agree. Great blog and subject. God bless.

The newest things I have been reading about is now being proclaimed in other countries but will soon be here also. It is called post-birth abortion or by some after-birth abortion. The belief is that a fetus should not be given human status until age two years. That way any problems not found before birth could be used to end the life of the thing not yet declared human.
I don't do the protest thing either. It becomes a circus.
Thanks for your comments.
