Spirit fruit and Spirit gifts

Spirit fruit and Spirit gifts

I am including scripture from three versions, NIV, KJV and ASV. I see no major difference in the wording. The meaning is clear.

[NIV-Galatians 5:22-23 But the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.]

[KJV; But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.]

[ASV-But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control; against such there is no law.]

There is only one Fruit of the Spirit, with nine parts. For many years for some reason I thought the word was fruits, plural, not fruit, singular. It is one fruit that I should have all of. Maybe because there is more than one fruit listed, I didn't read the word, fruit, correctly and assumed it said fruits. We can't pick the individual fruit we wish to have in our life; we are to have the whole fruit, with all nine sections. Like a grapefruit that has many sections, but together make a whole fruit, so is the working of the Fruit of the Spirit. The gifts of the Spirit are not the same as the Fruit of the Spirit. We must all have the entire Fruit of the Spirit, but each has a different gift of the Spirit.

[NIV-I Corinthians 12:7-11 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that same Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and He gives them to each one, just as He determines.]

[KJV-But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.]

[ASV-For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom; and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit: to another faith, in the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healings, in the one Spirit; and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discernings of spirits; to another [divers] kinds of tongues; and to another the interpretation of tongues: but all these worketh the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each one severally even as he will.]
