One Thing Is Sure

We may not like it, but there are absolutes in this world. One which comes to mind is death. Regardless of how well we take care of our bodies, they are not immortal. Another is if you deprive yourself of food and water permanently, you will die, you can only exist so long without oxygen and so forth. If this happens than that will happen. It is a part of natural law.

Now granted, there are factors that can be introduced which have an impact on the outcome. In your weakened state you decide that it was a bad idea to abstain permanently from food and water and you decide to forsake that idea. There is a point where you can change your mind, change your behavior and you will survive. If you don't change your behavior, you will suffer a premature death.

The same thing applies to us spiritually. Because of sin, we are spiritually dead. God, in His great love, mercy and grace has provided us with bread and water of life, Jesus Christ and though we are "dead", gives us the ability to receive or reject it. If we reject it we will remain spiritually dead but if we receive it... there was a reason that Jesus said He was the resurrection and the life! (John 11:25)

How do I know this is so? It is not because someone told me it was true. It is because I have tested it and found it to be true.

Blessings!

Listening to the local christian radio station this morning, one made the comment that religion has to keep re-inventing itself to be effective. Since it is a christian station, I have to assume they mean much I will disagree with. I find nothing in God's word, or the gospel, that needs re-inventing. That kind of statement and belief is exactly what is the problem. It is us who need to be 'new creations'. What christendom is basically saying is that we don't have to be. And that is the problem.

There are absolutes, and God is all of them. In Jesus Christ. We need changing, not God, nor the gospel, or His word. Living water, bread of Life. Thanks for the absolutes. God Bless.

I have little use for "religion". Christianity, in my mind, is different than what is common referred to as "religion". Perhaps we may have to, at times change or adjust our method of delivery. This is particularly true in areas where proselytizing or assembling together as a body are prohibited. Also, what might work in one cultural setting may not be as effective or may even alienate people in another one. Jesus knew his audience and the culture they lived in. We need to do the same.

There are things we can change. For a lot of young adults, dressing up in more formal attire and singing songs which contain words they aren't even familiar with conjures up the idea that the Church is for old people not them. Is it such a bad thing to tell people they don't have to dressed up in "church clothes" to come and worship God? Is it such a bad thing that people sing and worship God using a musical style that they love and words and phrases they are familiar with? I don't think so. The problem emerges when we water-down or even eliminate the Gospel and replace it with "modern worship".

Blessings!
