Spiritual Discomfort - Is This The Beginning of Revival?
I have heard from many Christians and have experienced a growing discomfort in my spirit. Surely the world events and our U.S. economic and politcal conditions are influences, but there is something more. Do you not sense something is occurring in the spiritual realm that is new. I always thought I had done a good job about seperating from the world - until recently. I am finding that the "things" of this world are "growing strangely dim". So is it me or is God doing a new work? Is He preparing His people for the final sendoff? Is Christ's return very close? Or are we experiencing the birthpangs of what we have been crying out for - personal and corporate revival. We know that the American Christian church - the body - is lacking power and victory. We have flown too close to the flame of allure of materially things and grown way too comfortable in them - dulling our spiritual senses. Is God extinguishing the flame which has so entrapped us? Is He emptying us of our trust in anything but His loving arms? Is He preparing a "fresh wind and fresh fire"? Revival is almost always a result of trials, tribulation and oppression. Are we not seeing this across our land? Are we not seeing natural disasters coming at the U.S. at unprecedented rates? Are we not seeing ever increasing attacks on Christianity in government, schools and the courts? Are we not seeing economic upheaval like never before? Are we not seeing an accelerating decline in morality in our popular culture and population? I believe you will agree that the answers to all of these questions are "Yes". So is it revival or the birth pangs of Christ's return? It should not matter which it is, really. How do we prepare for either (or both)? Repent. Focus on what we should be doing for the Kingdom. Praying, praying, praying - without ceasing. Storing as much of God's Word in our heart as quickly as possible, so if we are challenged, the Holy Spirit can use this spiritual ammo to witness and encourage us. He is calling us to true holiness and to forsake all of the entrapments of the world (tuen off the TV and pray or read God's Word?). He is calling us to deny ourselves, love one another and become broken - so He can abide in us and we can abide - once again - IN CHRIST.
